Rate: $15.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Host at Palm Bar is responsible for providing a warm and welcoming experience for guests as they enter the restaurant, managing the seating process to ensure efficient guest flow, and maintaining the organization of the dining room. The Host will be responsible for managing the waitlist, utilizing the Toast POS system to seat guests in a timely manner, and ensuring the even distribution of guests across server sections for maximum efficiency and guest satisfaction. The Host plays a crucial role in the smooth operation of the front-of-house, setting the tone for the guest experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guest Greeting and Seating:
  • Greet guests with a friendly and professional demeanor as they enter the restaurant.
  • Utilize the waitlist system to manage guest flow and ensure guests are seated as efficiently as possible.
  • Seat guests according to the restaurant’s seating plan, maximizing the use of space and balancing server sections for fair distribution.
  • Make sure guests are informed of wait times, offering options for seating or bar service when necessary.
  • POS and Waitlist Management:
  • Use the Toast POS system to track reservations, waitlists, and seating assignments.
  • Accurately assign guests to available tables based on party size and server availability, adjusting to real-time needs.
  • Communicate any changes or issues regarding seating to management or the service team promptly.
  • Coordination with Servers and Kitchen:
  • Work closely with servers and the kitchen team to ensure that seating arrangements align with the kitchen’s capacity and flow.
  • Distribute guests to different server sections to maintain even guest volume and prevent overload in any one area.
  • Ensure smooth transitions of guests through the seating process, maintaining open communication with the entire front-of-house team.
  • Guest Relations and Communication:
  • Answer any guest questions regarding wait times, the menu, or the restaurant’s policies.
  • Handle guest concerns or complaints in a calm and professional manner, escalating issues to management if necessary.
  • Ensure that guests feel comfortable and well-informed while they wait for their table.
  • Maintaining Cleanliness and Organization:
  • Ensure that the entrance area, host stand, and dining room are clean and organized at all times.
  • Assist with resetting tables, organizing waiting areas, and ensuring that menus and supplies are readily available for use.
  • Teamwork:
  • Work collaboratively with the service team, bartenders, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during busy periods.
  • Assist servers in coordinating guest needs or communicating specific requests to the kitchen or management.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a host or in customer service is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with POS systems, specifically Toast, is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive, friendly attitude with a focus on guest satisfaction.
  • Ability to stay calm and professional under pressure.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and perform physical tasks as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced environment.
