This job involves assisting on a two-man crew either remodeling bathrooms in private homes or assembling aluminum ramps. Most of the work is for disabled veterans. A company truck leaves from our warehouse in Scott every morning at 7:30am and returns by 5:30pm four days a week, Monday through Thursday. The successful candidate will be available every Monday through Thursday from the Scott warehouse at 7:30am. At a minimum, the candidate must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation to the warehouse every day. Verifiable experience (references required) doing construction work of this type is required. If you have at least one year of verifiable experience as an assistant remodeler, we can train you to do the specific jobs we need. We need to be able to call your references, so no out-of-business companies will qualify as references unless contact information can be provided for the previous owner. Because you will be working in the homes of veterans, background checks are required. If you are a veteran, hiring preference will be given.
Summary
Accessibility by Design is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Construction Helper to join our team in remodeling homes, primarily for disabled Veterans. Our work week is Monday through Thursday, 7:30am-5:30pm. Overtime is sometimes available on Fridays. Some travel is required, transportation provided. Occasional overnight travel may be available but is voluntary, hotel and per diem will be paid. As a Construction Helper, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a skilled carpenter, assisting them with various construction tasks and contributing to the creation of accessible and comfortable living spaces for our valued veterans.
Responsibilities
· Assist the main carpenter in construction projects, including but not limited to demolition, framing, drywall installation, painting, flooring, and fixture installation.
· Load and unload construction materials and tools at the job site.
· Keep the work area clean and organized, always adhering to safety standards.
· Operate basic hand and power tools as directed by the main carpenter.
· Help measure and cut materials accurately, minimizing waste and ensuring a high-quality finished product.
· Learn and develop construction skills, working towards the goal of becoming a skilled carpenter.
· Provide excellent customer service, communicate with team members in a professional and respectful manner.
