Job Summary
Position is responsible for taking over a classroom in the absence of a teacher.
Essential Duties
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. - Monitors students and provides classroom coverage when the teacher is away.
- Instructs various subject areas to students following the teachers lesson plans.
- Assists with the organization and preparation of the classroom and instructional materials; gathers resources and related supplies.
- Performs administrative duties such as making copies, recording attendance, grading papers, and other related tasks.
- Works with individual students who require additional help with assignments.
- Administers make-up tests.
- Assists with monitoring the cafeteria when not in a classroom.
- Provides supervision during recreation, special events, field trips, and other activities as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience working with students preferred.
- ParaPro Certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrates basic reading, writing, and computation skills.
- Have good physical and emotional health.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and enter data into a computer; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.

Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
