We are currently seeking a Pre-Press Supervisor for our Sugar Land, Texas plant.
In this position, the Pre-Press Supervisor is to directly supervise and manage the activities of Pre-Press
employees to ensure that safety, quality and production requirements are being met in a
fast paced printing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Adheres and enforces the established safety and product safety policies and procedures. Ensures safety and housekeeping is maintained in the Pre-Press departments and validates that the associated inspections are performed.
- Ensures all employees are properly trained on applicable plant, department and job specific standard operating procedures. Expectations and best practices are clearly communicated.
- Calculates labor and equipment requirements to production requirements. Directs and coordinates employee work assignments to ensure that employee and machine efficiency levels are maintained with minimal overtime. Utilizes HR software to continuously monitor employee’s attendance and hours worked and schedules employees for overtime, as approved.
- Thorough understanding of plate-making equipment/systems and empowers employees in helping to maintain them in good working order. Ensures equipment PM and verification/calibration is completed per manufacturer’s recommendations, with the goal to maximize efficiency and reduced downtime. Coordinates equipment downtime with employees.
- Reads and analyzes production schedules to determine production requirements and evaluates current production estimates and outputs. Is well versed with machine functionality that may reorganize production schedule to improve machine efficiencies, as needed. Posts daily production schedule, communicates any scheduling conflicts and suspended jobs to affected departments and coordinates scheduling conflicts, delays and department needs.
- Through understanding of the specification sheet. Ensures employees are performing quality verifications per job to consistently maintain customer requirements and release for production upon approval. Ensures all quality records are completed per job and filed in the job jacket to prepare for the next process.
- Continuously inspects materials, products and equipment for defects/malfunctions and coordinates the proper resources to address the issues.
- Utilizes the company’s ERP software system to track and analyze key performance indicators (KPI) as a department method to monitor performance. Generates Excel spreadsheets to organize, analyze, trend and present performance data, as needed.
- Identify causes for problems resulting from re-prints and plating errors. Utilizes the web-based NCTS or Customer Complaint Tracking System (CCTS) to address root cause and corrective actions of defective material identified internally and externally. Completes corrective action reports and addresses the defects to prevent from reoccurrence.
- Effectively communicates via phone and e-mail to coordinate operations and activities with others within or between departments.
- Conducts formal performance reviews at predetermined intervals and recommends personnel action changes with the department manager, when applicable.
- Handles complaints, settles disputes and resolves conflicts. Works with HR as needed.
- Leads and/or participates on continuous improvement projects (i.e. plate usage reduction) within the Pre-Press departments to reduce costs and reports status of open action items. Maintains established Lean/5S projects implemented in the Pre-Press departments.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- HS diploma required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree highly preferred.
- Must pass the Farnsworth-Munsell (FM) 100 Hue Test, which measures an individual’s color vision.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a minimum 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience participating and/or leading in continuous improvement projects. Background in Six Sigma or
- Lean Manufacturing highly preferred.
- Basic to intermediate computer operation skills; Experience with web-based software, ERP systems and
- Microsoft suite products, such as Word and Excel. Able to analyze and trend data.
Working Conditions
- Works full-time, M-F. Subject to work nights and/or weekends, as needed.
- Works indoors in a well-lit environment.
- Exposed to a moderately loud to loud noise level.
- Exposed to moving parts/equipment.
- Wears common protective or safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, hearing protection, hair net etc.
