Under the general direction of the Director of Student Support Services, the Academic Advisor provides a broad spectrum of services to Student Support Services participants. These services include but are not limited to crafting meaningful educational plans, keeping a record of students’ academic progress, connecting students to campus resources and services, and meeting with students periodically to provide feedback and guidance toward successful completion of a degree program and transfer to a university or college.POSTING DATE: JANUARY 27, 2025SALARY: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule E3 03 (range: $45,220 - $62,710). This position involves performance duties for a federally funded project and is contingent on continued federal funding. In the event that funds for this position are discontinued or significantly reduced or if federal requirements for funding this project no longer include this position, the College shall have the right to discontinue the position. Neither tenure or non-probationary status may be attained in this position. ANTICIPATED START DATE: MARCH 1, 2025The position will be based initially at the Sparks Campus in Eufaula.More than one position in the same job classification may be filled from the applicants for this position should another vacancy occur during the search process.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Progression and retention of program participants. Supports the TRIO Program by tracking and retaining project participants. Encourages retention by providing personal, academic, instructional, and career guidance to address all needs of participants.Meet with participants at least three (3) times per semester to provide assistance related to academic and other issues that may affect student academic performance.Conducts one-on-one academic advising, career, and transfer counseling services to participants using effective communication techniques with various modes of technology.Encourages and guides students to define, develop, and obtain realistic goals.Provides group and individual counseling to students on things like career development, course scheduling, study skills, test-taking skills, etc. advise and assist in postsecondary course selection,Advocates on the behalf of participants with faculty, staff, and colleagues, if necessary, ensuring participants meet guidelines for maintaining active involvement in the program. Provides academic tutoring to program participants, which may include instruction in reading, writing, study skills, mathematics, science, and other subjects. Assist student with information on the full range of student financial aid programs, benefits and resources for locating public and private scholarships; and assistance in completing financial aid applications.Provides individualized counseling for career and academic information, activities, and instruction designed to acquaint students with career options.Exposure students to cultural events and academic programs not usually available. Coordinate mentoring programs to assist students in securing temporary housing during breaks for students who are homeless youths and students who are in foster care or are aging out of the foster care system.Provides education and counseling services designed to improve the financial and economic literacy; assist with identifying, training, and development of SSS Financial Literacy Ambassadors.ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Program Administration. Develops and implements a comprehensive program that addresses the personal, academic, financial aid, and career needs of project participants. Assists in developing and conducting project activities.Collaborates with college recruiters and department staff on new and returning students and in the areas of financial aid, admissions, and records or other areas, serving as an advocate on behalf of students.Design, conduct, and evaluate 6-8 student academic support workshops per year, often in collaboration with on- and off-campus community partners. Plan and accompany student participants on cultural, academic, and leadership activity events 2-4 times per year.Maintain program website, social networking sites and/or program newsletter to support necessary advertisement and communication of program activities. Plan, prepare, and implement retention initiatives to meet TRIO/SSS mission and objectives. Maintain partnerships with workshop co-sponsors, create new programming as needed.Participate in at least one college committee, cross-departmental training, or discussion group per academic year; consult, collaborate and advise on programming and student issues with campus departments (faculty, Financial Aid, Admissions, Disability Services, Counseling, Career Services, etc.). Maintains comprehensive participant records to document personal growth and academic progress. Selects and administers academic, aptitude, and interest inventories to program participants as indicated by needs assessment. Provides assistance with any personal, academic, financial aid, career exploration, and other problems they are experiencing. Assures the accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality of participants’ files by working with the Director to assemble and maintain the components of the student file.Assists all students seeking academic information, such as selection of academic majors, and directing students to resources within the college that provide assistance in making career and academic major choices.Assists participants in completing applications for college admissions, financial aid, housing etc. Refers program participants to appropriate community, counseling, or support agencies as necessary. Attends seminars, workshops, and other meetings for professional development. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: College Expectations.
