The Vocational Training Assistant performs all duties under the direct supervision of the Workforce Development Coordinator. The incumbent motivates and assists eligible participants in completing short-term training programs. Facilitates the acquisition of industry-recognized certifications and credentials by delivering training utilizing industry-approved curriculums, administering assessments, maintaining records, and preparing reports. The Vocational Training Assistant will be primary point of contact for NCCER, MSSC and OSHA training as well as other training as determined by the College. The primary responsibilities for the position are listed below; however, the Dean of Instruction or Workforce Development Coordinator may assign other professional duties to meet the college's needs.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Follows practical and technical training programs, including demonstrations of skills required in the fields of construction/manufacturing/logistics/workplace safety and lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology.Trains students in construction/manufacturing trades subject areas such as carpentry/electrical/ plumbing, factory/commercial/industrial settings, as well as the use and maintenance of tools and equipment, codes or regulations related to trade, and safety precautions/issues.Plans and supervises students' training and assessment in small groups, in-shop or laboratory.Tests and evaluates students' achievement in technical knowledge and trade skills.Maintains all records and provides reports as directed by the Dean of Instruction or their designee.Administer assessments per the certifying agencies’ protocols.Gather and maintain information needed to register students for training and testing.Maintain the security of test materials.Ensure timely dissemination of certification documents.Track certification data and provide that data on demand for reports and presentations.Travels daily to various ISTC instructional sites (current valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) REQUIRED).Must be eligible to enter any/all Department of Corrections (DOC) facilities and Pardons & Paroles Facilities to perform the job duties and must maintain this status for continued employment.Performs other professional duties as assigned by the Dean of Instruction or Workforce Development Coordinator.Serves on committees as needed.Possesses an understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a community and technical college.Possesses a sensitivity and commitment to cultural diversity.Complies with any applicable guidelines, procedures, and policies set forth by Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and JF Ingram State Technical College.KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES: Ability to use computer software such as spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and computer testing.Ability to conduct/administer written tests.Knowledge of test security procedures.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, and team-building skills lead to logical decisions.
