Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Scientist with expertise in molecular biology, genetics, and microbiology to join our team. The successful candidate will develop clinical laboratory tests, contribute to the laboratory clinical operations, and work with QA and IT departments. This role involves designing and executing clinical validations, analyzing data, performing clinical laboratory procedures, submitting validations to regulatory agencies, and performing quality assurance activities. A Research and Development Scientist performs experimental essays and brings in new ideas and projects in coordination with its’ department leadership. Supporting the department supervisor functions. Eventually performing laboratory clinical testing to cover lab needs.
Skills:
- Applies extensive scientific knowledge with broad laboratory skills to execute complex bench experiments and develop new assays using a variety of molecular biology and general laboratory techniques as directed
- Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing data analysis applications in NGS and qPCR
- Plans experimental details required for the execution of assigned work, analyzes raw data, reports results, and plans the next steps. Experience in regulated laboratories is preferred
- Operates and maintains laboratory equipment. Validations of new instruments. Maintains accurate and detailed records of experimental work. Experience in writing SOPs and test validations is a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, precision, and commitment to accuracy are essential.
- Strong written and verbal communication, and organizational skills are essential.
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and data analysis software. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. LIS/LIMS experience is a plus
- Clinical Research experience is preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Experimental Design and bench work. Develop and execute clinical validations related to molecular biology, genetics, and microbiology.
- Submitting clinical test validations to regulatory agencies like NYSDOH
- Use advanced techniques such as PCR, qPCR, sequencing technologies, and bioinformatics tools
- Research and develop molecular microbiological assays
- Data Analysis and Interpretation. Analyze experimental data using statistical and computational tools
- Writing SOPs, technical reports, and laboratory validations. Develop and maintain QC laboratory records
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including QA, IT, and different departments from Laboratory Operations
- Represent ACCU Reference Medical positively in internal and external meetings. Present findings in team meetings, scientific conferences, and peer-reviewed publications
- Stay current with advancements in molecular biology, genetics, and microbiology to inform project development. Working with vendors on the evaluation of new clinical tests
- Develop new tests and optimize protocols for molecular and microbiological techniques. Execute experiments. Identify and troubleshoot operations challenges
- Manage multiple R&D projects, ensuring milestones and deadlines are met. Participate in Clinical Research projects
- Train and mentor laboratory operations staff as needed
Education:
· PhD degree (in Biology, Genetics, Chemistry or a related life sciences field)
· Strong background in molecular biology and microbial genetics
