Using lean manufacturing, Six Sigma methodology and Kaizen the Continuous Improvement Engineer works with Operations to optimize the productivity of the organization by analyzing data, identifying problems, and developing solutions.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Create value stream maps for current, future and ideal states to assess current condition and facilitate alignment around key projects and kaizens required to achieve annual goals
- Define measurable SQDCI goals and objectives for lean activities, and develop countermeasures when event targets are not achieved
- Deliver year-over-year cost savings as a percentage of sales
- Organize, plan and deliver effective cross functional team training based off lean principles and methodologies
- Implement and follow up on all lean activities in the plant to ensure sustainment of results
- Own the development, implementation and sustainment of the visual control system across the plant, including 5S, KPI boards and Kanban systems
- Facilitate Root Cause Problem Solving projects for top KPI misses across the organization
- Design manufacturing cell layouts to improve material and process flow across the facility
- Directly participate in all Kaizen events
- Other duties as assigned
- B.S in Industrial/Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of experience implementing Lean Manufacturing principles in a manufacturing environment
- Minimum of 1 year working in a manufacturing environment
- Prefer candidates with experience using the following lean tools: Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Standard Work, Creating Continuous Flow, 8D / Root Cause Problem Solving
- Good analytical skills required: 6 Sigma Green Belt preferred
- Ability to work effectively with other engineers, technicians, operators, and management.
- Experience in various computer software and administrative abilities.
- Experience with change management
- Must be a self-starter
- The role is part strategic (5%) and part hands on (95%)
- Indoor production environment, duties performed indoors, adequate lighting and comfortable temperatures.
- Personal protective equipment including safety glasses and gloves may be required in many areas associated with this position.
- Works full-time during standard business hours; may require on-call availability 24/7, as business situations require.
- Occasional exposure to metals, lubricants, solvents, electrolyte, and other hazardous materials. Exposure to moderate noise and machinery with mechanical moving parts.
