Role: Welding Engineer - Battery Development
Summary:
Acculon Energy is a Columbus, Ohio systems engineering firm specializing in energy storage
and cloud-connected solutions. We leverage our expertise and experience in energy storage,
artificial intelligence, and Internet-of-Things to accelerate and de-risk the transition to next-
generation lithium-ion solutions and beyond. Acculon is uniquely capable to design, prototype,
and provide commercialization services that enable OEM customer.
Responsibilities:
- Support, troubleshoot, and develop ultrasonic welding parameters
- Operate ultrasonic wire bonder (Hesse BJ985) for development and prototyping
- Support pilot production activities with manufacturing line wire bonders
- Test and analyze ultrasonic weld connections throughout product testing and validation
- Review component specs, such as plating and supplier quality on components involved in welding and battery interconnections (busbars, etc.)
- Support, troubleshoot, and develop spot welding parameters for aerospace and other battery applications
- Operate spot welder for development and prototyping
- Contribute to design reviews for development efforts in mechanical and electrical design (especially those including any welding)
- Future review, analysis and development of laser welding as relevant
- Future review, analysis and development of plastic welding (laser, ultrasonic, etc.)
- Future review, analysis and development of ultrasonic cable and busbar connections as relevant in new designs
- Review and contribute to diffusion welding review of supplier provided parts (laminated busbars, etc.)
- Support various manufacturing activities on existing and new release of products particularly in any welding or bonding operation
- Support, Troubleshoot, and develop and laser cleaning and cutting initially small scale bench systems as well as future large scale systems

Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar is required.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, presentations, and the ability to clearly articulate ideas to both internal and external stakeholders.
- 3D and 2D (preferably Solidworks)
- Experience with ultrasonic welding processes
- Experience with laser welding, cutting, etching processes
- Experience defining test plans, designing test setups, and analyzing data
- Experience working with batteries is a plus
