Job Summary:
A Die Cutter Operator in the folding carton industry is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining die-cutting machines to produce high-quality carton products according to customer specifications. This role involves ensuring precise cuts, minimizing waste, and maintaining machine efficiency while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Machine Setup & Operation
- Set up and adjust die-cutting machines (Bobst, Heidelberg, or similar) according to job specifications.
- Install cutting dies, stripping units, blanking tools, and counter plates.
- Operate the machine efficiently to produce accurate, high-quality cuts in paperboard and other substrates.
Quality Control
- Inspect and measure cut cartons to ensure they meet quality and customer standards.
- Identify and troubleshoot defects such as misalignment, cracking, or incomplete cuts.
- Adjust machine settings as needed to maintain consistency and precision.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform routine maintenance (cleaning, lubrication, minor repairs) to ensure optimal machine performance.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team for complex repairs and upgrades.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow OSHA regulations and company safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents and ensure efficiency.
- Handle dies and materials properly to avoid damage or injury.
Production Efficiency
- Monitor machine speed and output to maximize productivity while minimizing waste.
- Work with production supervisors to meet deadlines and optimize workflow.
- Maintain accurate production records and report any machine or material issues.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: 2 years of experience as a Die Cutter Operator in a folding carton or related industry.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with die-cutting machines (Bobst, Iberica, or equivalent).
- Attention to Detail: Ability to inspect, measure, and ensure accuracy in production.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Basic troubleshooting and machine maintenance skills.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift materials (50 lbs), stand for long periods, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Teamwork & Communication: Ability to collaborate with press operators, supervisors, and quality control teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with stripping and blanking operations.
- Knowledge of different paperboard types and their properties.
- Forklift certification or experience handling heavy loads.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing plant setting with exposure to loud machinery.
