Assistant Principal, Middle School 

Position:Assistant Principal, Middle School
Reports to:Principal
Classification:SYRS (12 months), Full Time, Exempt
Salary Range:$86,000 - $116,000
Location:ACE Empower Academy

 

Position Summary: 

The Assistant Principal is part of a school leadership team that includes the Principal, Dean of Community Outreach, and Office Manager. Reporting to the School Principal, you will be spearheading school-wide initiatives to build an optimistic school culture that is fundamental to achieving our mission. Given the community we serve, this role demands an equity mindset, believing that all students deserve to succeed in school. You are a collaborator, as this role works closely with all stakeholders-- students, teachers, and families. 

This role reports to the school principal and direct reports include teachers and campus supervisors. 

 

Responsibilities:

School Leadership

  • Under the Principal’s leadership inspire students, families and staff to achieve the mission of ACE by creating an engaging and vibrant school culture. 
  • Lead staff in creating a school community where people feel known, important, and accountable for their role in helping ACE meet our mission.
  • Is an essential member of the Administrative Team responsible for school oversight including student supervision, student activities, and parent outreach.
  • Provide successful supervision of assigned staff through coaching, development of growth plans, and effective implementation of performance evaluation process.
  • Are a part of the school safety response team, oversee the execution of safety drills, provide feedback to staff on how to improve practices.
  • Support parent engagement through consistent and informative Cafecitos. 
  • Supports with classroom coverage when teachers are out, including being a substitute, procuring a substitute and providing them guidance and support on the expectation of the day
  • Help all staff work through the particular stresses and challenges of serving our community.
  • Attend school-wide events on a rotating basis.

 

Instructional Leadership

  • In collaboration with Administrative team, build a school culture characterized by common core-based, data-driven instruction, cross-discipline collaboration, and a relentless focus on increasing student learning
  • Commit to equitable teaching and learning opportunities for all students with  dedication  to the success of students, their families, and the community.
  • Use data (internal benchmarks, state mandated testing and local tests) to analyze program effectiveness and identify areas of improvement.
  • In collaboration with the Admin and Department Leads, coordinates all local and state testing training and administration to ensure a 95% completion rate for all tests. 
  • As directed by the Principal, participate in curriculum development activities that provide opportunities for increased staff expertise and accelerated student learning.
  • Coach teaching staff to improve instruction, assessment, and classroom management; including the review and providing feedback on lesson/course overviews and exemplars 
  • Build authentic relationships with students by serving as a mentor; consistently reinforce the belief that all students have the capacity to be successful through college. 

 

Student Services

  • Support with the implementation of the MTSS program
  • Participate and or lead regular analysis of student data and that appropriate interventions are established for students via advisory or other interventions.
  • Lead and or support the Truancy intervention process.

 

Positive School Culture

  • Oversee development of school site culture calendar, log all events on reporting tool
  • Support the successful implementation of Student Engagement system to create an optimistic culture (PBIS)
  • Build authentic relationships with students and families; consistently reinforce the belief that all students have the capacity to be successful through college. 

 

Family and Community Outreach

  • Ensure all staff create an environment where parents feel welcome on campus
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure programs and processes are in place to help families be full participants in the success of their students
  • Meet with families as necessary regarding student progress, discipline, college acceptance, or other issues
  • Establish and maintain community partnerships (tutors, internships, etc.) that help students become better prepared to thrive in four-year universities
  • Spearhead the evaluation of current parent outreach programs and facilitate the development of new parent outreach systems that result in increased parent involvement and college readiness

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • You are a mission-driven individual who has experience working with diverse student populations, including English language learners and students with disabilities.
  • You are bilingual in Spanish and English, with at least conversational-level Spanish.
  • Analytical skills, applying assessment instruments, interpersonal skills, planning and managing projects, preparing and maintaining accurate records, promoting child centered environment, quality customer service skills, verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Knowledgeable of age appropriate activities, effective practices, and technology, working knowledge of budgets and funding, pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws, stages of child development, and working knowledge of the school system to include classroom experience.
  • The ability to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. 
  • Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: assess learning outcomes, and adapt curriculum and programs to meet needs of students consistently, 
  • Flexibility to meet needs of students, staff and parents, able to address the learning styles of all students, ability to provide an effective learning environment that encourages student based motivation, communicating with culturally diverse groups, students, staff and parents. 
  • Creating and maintaining a climate of respect. 
  • Establishing effective relationships, ability to promote a positive learning environment for students that involves staff and parents to promote high student achievement.

 

Education & Experience

  • You are a mission-driven individual who has experience working with diverse student populations, including English language learners and students with disabilities.
  • At least three  years working with students as a full-time teacher. One year of teacher-leadership experience is strongly preferred.
  • You hold a bachelor’s degree and have at least one year of school-based leadership experience.
  • Required you hold a valid Clear California Teaching Credential. 
  • Administrative Credential is preferred.
  • Your language fluency in Spanish or Vietnamese and English is a plus.

 

Physical Demands

To perform essential functions for the role, you should be able to: 

  • Talk, hear and communicate with both adults and children
  • Use hands or fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls
  • Walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms
  • Stand or move about for extended periods of time, including in inclement weather
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and climb ladders
  • In terms of vision, have close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus

 

Salary & Benefits

  • It is a full time position eligible for health benefits 
  • Participation in the CalSTRS retirement plan is required, and you have the option to contribute into a 401(k) retirement plan.
  • ACE Charter is undergoing a Compensation Study to ensure our wages remain competitive.  Pending the study outcome, salary scales may be adjusted prior to the start of the 2025- 2026 school year.
