The Ace Hardware Titusville Garden Center Manager reports directly to the Store Manager, but works in partnership with the management team to ensure sales growth and profitable operations for the Garden Center.
Requirements
- Strong work ethic.

- Extensive knowledge and background in horticulture.
- Minimum of 2 years experience successfully managing a retail garden center / nursery.
- Ambitious toward garden center sales and profit growth.
- Ability to take ownership of the garden center and make strong business decisions.
- Responds with urgency to opportunities to improve the garden center.
- Experience in merchandising and creating promotional displays.
- Working outdoors (in covered and non-covered Garden Center) for up to 100% of shift.
- Standing for extended periods of time, lifting, bending, kneeling and climbing a ladder.

- Dependable transportation.
- Ability to work productively with others.
Leadership
- Provides effective leadership and regular communication to garden center and store employees regarding sales, profit, operations, product knowledge and training for the Garden Center.
- Always projects a positive, enthusiastic view of Ace Hardware Titusville.
- Available to work flexible schedule based on business needs and customer traffic patterns, to include nights, weekends and holidays.
- Comfortable developing employees and giving direction that will benefit the Garden Center.
- Works a full-time schedule not to exceed 40 hours, unless approved by Store Manager.
- Responsible for seeing that Garden Center is appropriately maintained at all times, including delegating tasks through management during the Garden Center Manager's absence.
- Sees that all customers are greeted and well served, sharing expert product knowledge and building a strong customer base.
- Works with Training Coordinator to see that garden center and store employees are up to date on basic Garden Center processes and product knowledge.
- Freely consults and benchmarks other area Ace Garden Centers for best practices.
- Stays current with any and all Ace Garden Center training.
Merchandising
- Orders plants and other Garden Center merchandise using sales history and extensive experience to make sound purchasing decisions.
- Maintains appropriate inventory control and builds stock in anticipation of peak seasons and reducing it during slow seasons.
- Builds and maintains a product assortment balance of unique local plants & trees with more mainstream plants.
- Responsible for merchandising and creating attractive / compelling displays to achieve a “here’s what it can look like at home” presentation.
- Responsible for pricing and signing in Garden Center.
- Oversees proper plant care to maintain the customer perception of high quality while minimizing shrinkage; including proper watering, wind / temperature mitigation and sun / shade management.
- Keeps up-to-date on the latest garden / nursery merchandise.
- Prepares appropriately for the start of each season, holidays and special events.
- Manages & executes profitable exit strategy for aging product.
The Garden Center Manager should perform whatever task necessary to ensure the Garaden Center's success.
