Job Title: Senior Controls Engineer (Contract)
Location: Southington, Connecticut
Rate: $60-65ph W2
Shift: 1st shift (7:00 AM - 4:00 PM) | Onsite
We are looking for a controls engineer for a medical devices client in Southington, CT. The ideal candidate will play a key role in troubleshooting production equipment, optimizing automation and controls systems, and enhancing manufacturing operations. This position requires expertise in Allen-Bradley PLCs and Cognex Vision Systems to support and sustain production activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned equipment and machine control systems.
- Lead and participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts for production equipment.
- Perform independent analysis and develop solutions for process improvement, cost savings, and equipment optimization.
- Create and update P&IDs, wiring schematics, and I/O drawings for control systems.
- Provide engineering design, programming, and troubleshooting for PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, Vision Systems, AC/DC Drives, and Robot Controllers.
- Oversee project scope, design, FAT, SAT, startup, commissioning, and validation for control systems.
- Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by addressing quality, performance, uptime, maintenance, and scrap reduction.
- Collaborate with Quality Engineers on qualification activities for new or modified processes and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with cGMP regulations and best engineering practices.
- Provide training on HMIs, system documentation, and department procedures.
- Deliver clear and effective communication across teams and leadership.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) required.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in automation and controls engineering.
- Strong knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLCs, FactoryTalk, and Rockwell Automation systems.
- Experience with Cognex Vision Systems and machine control systems.
- Understanding of plastic injection molding, part assembly, fixturing, and process control techniques.
- Ability to work independently and solve complex automation problems.
- Familiarity with equipment strategy and system lifecycle management.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to work in a cleanroom environment and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
- Limited travel required (<5%).
