ARBORIST CREW LEADER

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Acer Tree Company hires Arborist Crew Leaders who are passionate about sharing their experience and knowledge with budding arborists who are expanding their experience and knowledge in the cultivation and management of trees. In this role you will directly lead and manage our flourishing crew of arborist apprentices to deliver quality outcomes to our valued clients while training your peers to perform a variety of tasks to help individuals, companies, and governments maintain their trees. These tasks will include, but are not limited to, trimming and pruning trees, removing dead or dying trees and identifying and treating diseased trees. In this role you will design, implement, facilitate and perform a variety of tasks and training opportunities to help individuals, companies, and governments maintain their trees. This position’s main objective is to assist our company in developing and managing staff and projects which provides superb services and tree health solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop, manage, maintain and oversee all operations of the Tree Work department and associated staff, policies, procedures, equipment, clients, etc.

• Drive, operate and maintain all company tools and equipment.

• Provide excellent customer service to, communicate with and educate clients and staff regarding tree health. Address client concerns and accurately answer questions about various available services. Meet with clients to discuss their needs, confirm scope of project and conduct end of day check-ins.

• Collaborate with team members to schedule projects, services, develop project routes, coordinate schedules, equipment and staff, and ensure timely completion of jobs.

• Perform daily reviews of timesheets, work orders, and production sheets as pertaining to the Tree Work department. Rectify errors in work orders, including correcting codes, service periods, and descriptions.

• Perform pre-climb hazard checks on trees, remove trees using felling, climbing, rigging, and/or cranes and making decisions as to which techniques should be utilized, perform crown cleanings, cabling/bracing, crown reductions, tying knots, preparing equipment for use and other similar tasks; train any delegated staff on each of these areas in accordance with individual progress.

• Drive job site productivity and efficiency and delegate tasks to assigned crew; operating large equipment such as wood chippers and skid steers, assisting climbers with maintenance of ground byproducts, end of day site cleanup, other similar tasks.

• Perform basic maintenance on equipment including, chip truck, chipper, skid steer, dump trailer, chainsaws, etc.

• Inspecting personal and crew climbing and rigging gear for daily use.

• Comprehensive understanding of A300 guidelines in regard to; Pruning trees and shrubs, Planting and transplanting trees or woody plants, implementing supplemental support systems.

• Participate or lead staff trainings based on experience; Aerial Rescue, CPR & First Aid, and on the use of medical equipment provided.

QUALIFICATIONS & PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:

• Valid driver's license (Class A or B CDL preferred).

• ISA Certified Arborist strongly preferred. Additional distinguished qualifications; CTSP, TRAQ, etc.

• Exceptional willingness to develop, lead and work in a positive team dynamic.

• Professional demeanor, communication and customer service skills.

• Must be physically fit, agile and able to lift heavy objects, often exceeding 50 lbs. as well as climbing and rigging trees

• Comprehensive knowledge of New England tree species and biology and passion for continuing education in the field of Arboriculture.

• Ability to prioritize and approach work tasks with high efficiency, a heightened sense of spacial awareness, ability to anticipate needs of colleagues, a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and willingness to support others until group work is completed.

• Comprehensive knowledge and experience with all aspects of tree care & maintenance, climbing & rigging equipment and use of heavy equipment, tying knots including but not limited to; Bowline, Bowline on a bight, Running bowline, Alpine, butterfly, Clove hitch, Cow hitch, Shackle hitch, Cleat hitch, Blake’s hitch, Double fisherman’s bend, European Death Knot bend, English Prusik, Kleimheist.

• Basic knowledge of tree health conditions effecting New England species; plant healthcare equipment and associated chemicals, fertilizers, solutions, etc.

• Willingness to seek relevant certifications and continue education in your field.

• Strong drive and motivation to work independently and meet productivity goals

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
