Duties and responsibilities
• Assist REACH program director and Community Care Director in participant recruitment.
• Observe and report to the Community Care Director any noticeable change in the mood, appearance, or outward behaviors which may be indicative of new traumatic experiences.
• Conduct intakes with youth participants and their family members: o Within a positive youth development (PYD) framework, assess and identify each youth’s needs, assets, advocacy interests, art interests and aptitudes, and possible diagnostic profile; write intake reports.
• Conduct periodic progress reviews for each youth participant.
• Liaise and collaborate with REACH staff, family members, school educators, the courts, and other social service organizations to assist in meeting the youth’s and family’s needs and to enhance the youth’s relationships with adults.
• Maintain contact with families and respond to their queries. This includes home visitations which may be required during the evening hours. • Inform the REACH care team about the youth’s particular circumstances.
• Lead periodic case consultations with the REACH care team.
• Provide clinical consultation and crisis management to youth as needed.
• Provide short term individual counseling to youth and triage as appropriate. • Operate with an accessible, open-door policy for the youth.
o Develop empowerment structures for the youth.
o Develop opportunities for the youth to exercise leadership and advocacy skills.
o Facilitate spaces such that learners interact in a supportive and respectful manner.
• Participate in staff & program meetings and trainings, e.g. on PYD and trauma-informed care
• Attend staff meetings, seek out professional development opportunities, and assume all other related duties as assigned by REACH Program Director
• Attend and supervise students during Saturday off-site programming at Mel Blount Youth Initiative beginning May 2024. Qualifications
• At least two years of experience as an educator or program manager in the area of juvenile justice, or related counseling in the area of the criminal justice system.
• Familiarity with PA’s Juvenile Act and the juvenile justice system, knowledge of the social factors involved in the maladjustment and resilience of juveniles, understanding of individual and group behavior.
• Must have or be able to obtain Act 33/34 Pennsylvania Clearance and a FBI fingerprint clearance
