The Role:
ACH Food Companies, Inc. is seeking an experienced food law lawyer for its Corporate Counsel - Food Law and Regulatory, North America position. The role is a unique opportunity with primary exposure to the entire family of grocery businesses within Associated British Foods North America. The Corporate Counsel will report to a Sr. Corporate Counsel, Grocery Category, and be a member of the legal department located in Oakbrook, IL. The position seeks an attorney who can act as a legal business partner to the business counseling and supporting in maximizing opportunities and managing risk in the areas of food law compliance, advertising, claims substantiation and litigation. An ideal candidate would have 5-7 years of legal practice in a corporate legal department or law firm. Food or CPG experience is required. The ideal candidate is client-service oriented, highly collaborative, and who excels at delivering high quality, actionable, and timely legal advice.
What You'll Do:
Counsel businesses on initiative and matters relating to food law, regulatory and advertising such as:
- Regulatory and quality compliance (FDA, state and local), assisting with facility inspections, enforcement actions, product withdrawals and recalls in the United States and Canada.
- Promotions, advertising, marketing, product claims and label review as well as provide FTC compliance and trademark support.
- Product, ingredient and claim development.
- GRAS and Prop 65
- Advise business stakeholders on litigation risks, access potential litigation exposure and costs, and provide mitigation actions.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of existing regulations and legislation, monitoring trends and anticipate potential consequences for our businesses.
What You'll Need:
- A JD from an accredited law school and a license or ability to practice law in Illinois.
- At least five years of food law experience in a law firm or corporate legal department. Interested candidates must have a willingness to broaden or adapt their scope of expertise.
- Ability to travel from time to time domestically primarily. 20% travel required.
