Purpose/Duties: Responsible for managing all aspects of the day to day operations of the Business Lending Department, to include managing staff, goals, and systems. Must participate in training annually, or as required for BSA and the Privacy Act. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Key Result Areas:
  • Establish, monitor and meet goals related to the Commercial Lending Department.
  • Responsible for Business Lending and Treasury Management Teams, administering incentive programs/comp plans, creating & implementing business plan, developing processes and procedures for each employee in the department; and reviewing on a regular basis to identify goal progress, concerns, and areas of improvement.
  • Promote the credit union as a partner of choice. Use market demographics and other sources to effectively make recommendations; provide budget for department to include expense accounts (CRMs), systems, equipment, and marketing.
  • Responsible for fulfilling all job requirements identified in the Lending Product Manager Position Specification Form.
  • Research, recommend and implement systems and procedures to ensure the highest level of service and effective operations for MBLs/commercial members.
  • Ensures pipeline reports are maintained and accurate, reporting to Commercial Loan Committee monthly.
  • Create or assist with creating policies and procedures for the Commercial Lending Department as it relates to MBLs, including origination, underwriting, closing, servicing/posting payments, annual reviews, collections, liquidation. Ensure that policies and procedures are compliant with NCUA and State Regulators, as well as the SBA SOP; policy change recommendations are presented to and approved by the Commercial Loan Committee and communicated with staff.
  • Respond to technical and operational questions/issues from credit union staff and make appropriate recommendations, and respond in a timely manner.
  • Respond and resolve complex or escalated business member questions and issues as appropriate and ensure the highest level of member satisfaction.
  • Prepare and disseminate information pertaining to credit union trends, security issues, operations, regulations, and services to staff on a regular basis.
  • Provide leadership to direct reports, monitor attitudes, skills, general competencies, and product knowledge to ensure that staff meets high standards for service performance and delivery. Assure training and other available resources are to help staff meet standards.
  • Review and maintain Commercial Lending & SBA Credit Policy and Procedures Manual.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings, participate in management meetings, and generally maintain systems to ensure open, timely, and effective communication at all organizational levels.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relations for operations – i.e. closing attorneys, title companies, appraisers, environmental companies, off-site business member visits, secondary market sales, etc. (3rd party vendors).
  • Train all staff on due diligence of loan requests, review for eligibility, review prescreen analysis to determine adequate DSC & collateral (if any), review all documents to complete credit file, SBA submissions, CAM, closing documents, and loan presentations to loan committee and board for approvals.
  • Insure all loan files are complete and compliant with regulatory rules, SBA SOP manual, Commercial Loan Committee conditions, and credit union policies and guidelines.
  • Regulate funding of loans and draw requests to insure fiduciary responsibilities are adhered to.
  • Prepare for audits and examiners visits, work with the Operations Manager to ensure that all credit files are current and loaded in OnBase (loan archival system) for review; discuss any Audit Points with PM for a resolution.
  • Work with the Debt Resolution Department on collections/Watch List and inform COO of any issues or concerns to be addressed.
  • Attend all Commercial Loan Committee and Charge Off & Delinquency Meetings; and Board Meetings to present all MBLs (with CRM owner) to committee and personally present loans that exceed $3 million in total aggregate loan amount to any one business member.
  • Educate Loan Committee and Board Members on all Commercial Lending Products/Programs offered by the credit union.
  • Responsible for upholding all credit union ethical standards.
  • Represents the credit union in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Perform other essential job functions as required or assigned.
Required Education:
  • BA/BS in Business Administration or related field (preferred)
Required Experience:
  • 5-7 years Experience and knowledge of business lending, products & services
  • 3-5 years Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards applicable to business and SBA products, commercial lending and commercial real estate
  • 3-5 years SBA 7a Program
Required Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with business members and all levels within the organization
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to handle multple priorities, goal oriented, and excellent time management skills
  • Must be able to interpret specific policies, procedures, regulations, etc. with a significant amount of discretion. Decision-making is generally confined to issues within the policies and goals for a specific department or operating unit
  • Must possess experience with responsibility for working closely with top management for the development and implementation of policies that affect multiple functional areas
  • 3-5 years Leadership experience

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff
