Position Overview
The Mammographer is responsible for producing high quality digital clinical images that meet specific technical criteria for the radiologist to interpret.
Digital mammography is a specialized form of mammography that uses digital receptors and computers instead of x-ray film to examine breast tissue for breast cancer. The electrical signals can be read on computer screens, allowing manipulation of the images. The Mammographer uses this technology and equipment to acquire images of the breast in various projections. X-radiation is used in the production of these images.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform Digital Screening Mammography
- Perform Digital Diagnostic Mammography
- Digitize outside analog films into PACS system
- Assist Radiologist with Breast biopsies
- Assist with Breast Ultrasounds
- Perform daily, weekly and monthly QC
- Responsible for QA outcomes audit for ACR/FDA
- Maintain accurate records for ACR/FDA inspections
- Liaise with Interpreting Radiologist to maintain QA Program
- Participate in annual FDA inspections
Requirements
Experience
Required: 3 years’ experience as a Mammography Technologist
Preferred: 3 years’ experience as a Mammography Technologist with responsibilities for US guided biopsy procedures
Education
Required: Graduate of a radiologic technology training program in an A.M.A.-approved school
Preferred: Bachelor’s or advanced degree
Licensure/Certification:
- ARRT certification in Radiography
- ARRT certification in Mammography
- Active State of Florida Mammography License
- Current Basic Life Support & CPR certifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Required:
- Good knowledge of MQSA/ACR/FDA compliance standards
- Proficiency with mammography QA/QC procedures
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Good ability to liaise with interpreting radiologists/referring physicians and various governing/accrediting bodies
- Proficiency with mammography equipment and terminology
- Strong time management and multi-tasking abilities
- Proficiency with MS Office and EMR (Mosaiq) software and Outlook
Preferred: Knowledge of PACS and DICOM
