Position Overview
The Radiation Therapy Assistant plays a crucial role in the healthcare team, contributing to the effective and compassionate delivery of radiation therapy treatments. This position entails supporting the Radiation Therapy team in various daily tasks and actively participating in the care of patients undergoing radiation therapy.
Essential Job Functions
- Assists RTT in escorting patients into treatment/simulation room, position on table.
- Prepares patients for imaging procedures, operates equipment tables and gantries and prepares patients for scanning.
- Performs all block fabrication in a timely manner.
- Develops and maintains all simulation and film cassettes.
- Prepares treatment/simulation room for patients, including cleaning table, preparing immobilization devices and setting up machine.
- Ensures accuracy in the medication process, including transport, storage, security, and/or administration of medications to include IV solutions.
- Functions cooperatively as a team member and responds as directed by responsible RTT to changing patients’ needs.
- Identifies own educational needs and participates in educational and other activities which contribute to professional growth.
- Participates in the development of annual goals.
- Communicates in a professional manner and demonstrates respect for patients, families/significant others, and other health care members.
- Complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations.
- Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion competencies of OTJ training for radiation therapy.
