Data Modeling Technology Lead
Position Overview: We are seeking a Data Modeling Technology Lead to ensure data alignment supports client and business team goals. This role involves managing granular data to support activities, reporting needs, data sharing, and future development. The lead will have access to Databricks, SFTP, Power BI, SharePoint, and Teams. This position reports to the Senior Vice President and General Manager and is part of our Enterprise Data Platform team.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Operations Support:
- Validate and support data alignment across WR and Activity Types.
- Collaborate with the team to improve data quality and find solutions.
- Quickly categorize data to provide actionable insights using Power BI, Databricks, and Excel.
- Develop and maintain queries to support immediate needs and operationalize data flows.
- Collaborate with internal and external development teams as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
Invoicing and Resolution Support:
- Mitigate data alignment issues to prevent assessment failures.
- Resolve invoice issues using data-driven solutions.
- Output new invoices post-evaluation and resubmit as needed.
- Work with SQL (Databricks) and SLIM to review and restate raw data for client alignment.
Future State Support:
- Assist business and client partners in achieving their goals through data and design.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and reporting.
- Investigate data misalignments and determine their impact on the business.
- Develop strong relationships with IT partners to stay informed on changes and support business needs.
Data Modeling and Reporting:
- Develop complex/advanced Azure Analysis Services (AAS) Tabular models with large volumes of data and advanced business logic.
- Create complex and efficient views in Azure Databricks to support AAS Tabular modeling requirements.
- Work closely with Project Managers, BI Architects, BI QA Analysts, and Data Engineering Developers in both Agile and Waterfall settings.
- Monitor, tune, and optimize AAS and Power BI models.
- Mentor Junior and Senior Data Modelers in Power BI and AAS development, focusing on optimization and automation.
- Investigate new and emerging technologies for potential uses in BI solutions.
Automation and Optimization:
- Automate and schedule data refreshes for AAS models.
- Provision and size AAS resources.
- Develop new complex/advanced Power BI reports and enhance existing ones.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in Excel, critical thinking, and Databricks.
- Experience with Power BI, SQL, and data categorization.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to identify and resolve data quality issues.
- Expert in Power BI, including Vertipaq storage engine, performance measurement, and optimization.
- Advanced proficiency in AAS (or SSAS) tabular models.
- Solid foundation in Azure Databricks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Microsoft Certification: Data Analyst Associate, MCSA: BI Reporting, Azure Data Engineer Associate.
- 10 years of related work experience.
- 7 years of experience in Microsoft SSAS, AAS, and data warehouse design for Business Intelligence.
- 5 years of experience with data analytics and various report development software.
- Experience working with ETL tools such as Azure Databricks.
- Good problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
