Outpatient Facility Medical Coder – Portland, OR
We are seeking an experienced Outpatient Facility Medical Coder to join our partner facility in Portland, OR. In this role, you will independently assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes for various healthcare settings, ensuring compliance with coding regulations and maintaining high standards of accuracy and productivity.

Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of coding experience or 18 months in an accredited apprentice program.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One or more of the following certifications:
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding guidelines and medical terminology.
- Experience with EMR systems (e.g., EpicCare) and coding software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and meet productivity standards.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Must pass a coding skill test with a score of 75% or higher.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in a medical records or health information environment.
- Degree in Health Information Management.
- Familiarity with CMS HCC Risk Adjustment coding.
- Ability to analyze productivity trends and conduct audits.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and HCPCS/CPT codes for outpatient facility records, including ED, ASC, HAS, OBS, and selected inpatient cases.
- Validate and review coding assignments from Computer Assisted Coding (CAC) systems.
- Utilize Code Base Charge Trigger system (CBCT) and OPTUM 360 EncoderPRO for coding and charge validation.
- Ensure compliance with CMS guidelines, NCCI edits, UHDDS, OMAP, and facility coding standards.
- Identify principal diagnoses and procedures for appropriate APC, MS-DRG, and APR-DRG assignment.
- Perform quality checks and participate in audits to ensure coding accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Stay updated on industry coding trends, guidelines, and best practices.
- Work closely with clinical and administrative teams to enhance documentation accuracy.
Schedule & Compensation:
- Full-time, permanent position.
- Salary: $52,000 – $76,000 per year.
