What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool and Die Maker position at Acro Industries?
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
The Tool Maker Journeyman will contribute to the company’s success by designing the proper Die and coordinating the completion of the tool, while maintaining the appropriate quality and safety standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Has completed a formal apprenticeship program of at least four (4) years and has less then (7) seven years in the trade. The guidelines for the apprentice program will follow the NYS apprenticeship guidelines.
- A typical tool that the toolmaker will build are blank, compound, pierce, draw, form, and progressive type tooling as well as inspection, spot weld and welding fixtures.
- Must trouble shoot the tooling to make sure the product being produced off the tooling is meeting all the customer’s requirements.
- Regularly communicates with engineering, production, and quality personnel for improvements to the design and process.
- This communication may include interpretation of written formulas or verbal technical information with moderate complexity and recommendations for changes in the manufacturing or tooling process.
- Provides input for continuous improvement in scheduling, workflow, and quality.
- Responsible to ensure that safe operation of tooling and equipment is understood and always followed.
- Must always keep the work area safe and clean.
- Responsible for accurate recording of paperwork including labor sheets, material pick lists and timecards as appropriate.
- Responsible for packaging parts in a safe and reasonable manner to move parts throughout the shop.
- Responsible for stopping the process if at any time they feel that the parts are not meeting the quality requirements, or the process is not meeting the safety requirements.
- Required to use measurement equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and indicators with height gages.
- Mentor and coach, the operators to ensure that they understand the requirements of the job that has been set up.
- May approve product for first piece approval according to Acro’s standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Normal production environment.
· Safety glasses are always required in the manufacturing area.
· Lubricants and sharp metals will be part of the normal operations.
· Ability to lift 15 lbs. unassisted and 50 lbs. with assistance.
· Clear or correct vision and a close distance and ability to read small print, numbers, or measurement devices at a close distance.
· Ability to push or pull above the shoulder and perform repetitive hand and wrist motions.
· Will be required to sit or stand for long periods of time.
· The normal work week is 40 hours with off-shift and weekend support as needed to ensure work is completed in a timely fashion.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $32.00 per hour
