Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive IT resiliency and disaster recovery (DR) strategies to ensure the availability and recoverability of critical business systems and data in the event of a disaster or system failure.
- Collaborate with business units to conduct business impact analysis (BIA) and risk assessments to identify critical IT systems and processes, defining Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
- Design, document, and regularly update disaster recovery plans (DRP) and business continuity plans (BCP), ensuring they align with organizational goals and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate and conduct regular disaster recovery testing (tabletop exercises, failover drills, system restoration tests) to validate readiness and identify gaps in the recovery process.
- Manage and maintain disaster recovery environments, including backups, replication, and failover technologies, ensuring systems and data can be restored quickly and reliably.
- Work closely with IT infrastructure, network, and application teams to design, implement, and optimize high-availability and redundancy solutions across data centers, cloud environments, and hybrid architectures.
- Monitor system performance, backup processes, and replication jobs to ensure that DR and resiliency processes are functioning as expected.
- Provide support and oversight for critical incident response processes, including identifying and resolving issues during system outages and recovery operations.
- Maintain and continuously improve documentation for disaster recovery procedures, including system restoration playbooks and recovery workflows.
- Assist in the selection, evaluation, and implementation of disaster recovery technologies and tools (e.g., Veeam, Zerto, Commvault, cloud-based disaster recovery).
- Ensure that backup and disaster recovery policies are consistent with organizational security standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOX).
- Track and report on key resiliency metrics (e.g., backup success rates, recovery time, recovery point) and provide recommendations for improvements based on findings.
- Educate staff and provide training to ensure that stakeholders are aware of disaster recovery procedures and best practices.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulatory changes, and new technologies related to IT resiliency and disaster recovery.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in IT disaster recovery, business continuity, or IT resiliency roles.
- Strong understanding of disaster recovery and business continuity best practices, frameworks, and methodologies (e.g., ITIL, NIST, ISO 22301, COBIT).
- Hands-on experience with disaster recovery tools and platforms (e.g., Veeam, Zerto, Commvault, Azure Site Recovery, AWS Disaster Recovery).
- Experience with backup and replication technologies, including cloud-based and hybrid environments.
- Knowledge of IT systems architecture, including networking, servers, storage, databases, and virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, AWS, Azure).
- Solid understanding of recovery objectives (RTO, RPO) and how to define and achieve them for critical IT systems.
- Experience in planning and conducting disaster recovery tests, drills, and exercises.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify issues quickly and recommend effective solutions.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements impacting disaster recovery (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, SOX).
- Proficiency in writing and maintaining documentation, including DR plans, procedures, and recovery playbooks.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with senior leadership.
- Federal Experience is a plus.
- Required Security clearance.
