Responsibilities
- General Ledger & Financial Support:
- Provide accounting support for monthly closings, periodic reviews, and annual audits.
- Ensure the accuracy of general ledger funds and financial reports.
- Maintain capital assets records within financial software systems.
- Track and monitor capital expenditures to ensure fiscal compliance with grant contracts.
- Grant Management & Cash Flow:
- Prepare periodic invoices and bills for external grant funding agencies.
- Assist departments in financial assessments of grant projects, ensuring proper tracking of expenditures.
- Support cash management processes, including monitoring cash balances and cash flow to maintain financial stability.
- Reporting & Record Management:
- Compile routine and ad hoc reports, providing necessary financial data and insights.
- Manage records created and received in compliance with the Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policies and Procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned related to accounting and grants management.
- Solid understanding of fund accounting principles and concepts.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and strong time-management skills.
- Ability to independently prepare routine reports, presentations, and correspondence with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
- Experience using PeopleSoft accounting modules, as well as reporting tools such as NVision, Crystal Reports, and Query.
- Basic problem-solving skills related to software applications used in accounting and reporting.
Education & Certifications:
- Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Experience in grant administration is preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with proficiency in microcomputers and analytical skills.
- Required:
- A valid Driver’s License; must obtain a Virginia Driver's License within 60 days of hire if coming from out of state.
- Non-essential personnel status for this position.
