SUMMARY: This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the extruder that helps manipulate and shape thermoplastic over the cabled core.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on the extrusion machine such as cleaning and lubricating to ensure performance and longevity of equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Set up the extrusion machine to run the item to the specification stated on the shop paperwork.
- Perform a check of setup once the machine is operating.
- Monitor the extrusion process closely, making real-time adjustments to equipment settings to maintain product quality and output efficiency.
- Conduct quality and settings checks upon start of shift and regularly throughout the shift.
- Troubleshoot and resolve minor operational issues to minimize downtime.
- Notify supervisor of any issues and if items fail to meet quality standards.
- Maintain accurate production records, including product counts, machine settings, and maintenance activities, to track productivity and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Comply with all safety guidelines and protocols to create a safe working environment and minimize workplace hazards.
- Participate in training for the machine, printer, and paperwork.
- Perform other similar and related duties as assigned or instructed by supervisor .
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic computer skills.
- Basic math skills.
- Prior on-the-job/hands-on experience a plus
- Strong problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.
- Ability to work well with a team, but also be comfortable with doing independent projects.
- Good communication skills and patience.
- Ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed.

- Occasionally required to handle printer ink and solvent with protective gear.

- Continually required to work near the extruder that heats up to 400 degrees.
- While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision; distance vision. depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Specialized equipment used: Diameter tape, micrometer, vernier, large cutter and pick glass.
