What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Manager position at Actalent Engineering?
Actalent Engineering is seeking qualified candidates for a Safety Manager opening with a product manufacturer that is located in Hanover, PA. This person will be responsible for planning, directing and implementing safety programs a three manufacturing facilities that are located in York County to ensure a safe, healthy and accident-free work environments.
Below is a summary of responsibilities for this position:
- Develops, implements, and maintains effective safety and health policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations or standards and company policies and procedures.
- Conducts audits and risk management assessments of facilities, equipment, safety procedures and practices and provides corrective action recommendations to management.
- Collaborates with Management and the Operations teams to improve the working environment, reduce potential impacts to employees from operational activities, and make recommendations on process and product safety best practices that will reduce employee exposure to work hazards (e.g., Job Safety Analysis).
- Reviews requirements for new equipment, raw materials or substances (e.g., M/SDS), or processes to verify that all safety and health requirements are met.
- Performs incident investigations (accidents, injuries, and near misses), maintains records including injury and illness (OSHA Form 300) and non-injury investigation reports, presents corrective actions to management and tracks progress to ensure actions are implemented.
- Manages Worker’s Compensation cases to ensure an expedient conclusion.
- Manages and/or conducts all required safety training to communicate safety awareness and safe work methods (e.g., lock-out/tag-out, fire extinguisher, forklift, hoist, blood borne pathogens) mandated by government regulations and company polices for all newly hired and current employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Conducts regular fire and evacuation drills.
- Organizes and conducts monthly Safety Committee meetings.
- Manages first aid program (e.g., AED, CPR training).
- Manages all safety-related PPE and supplies to ensure sufficient resources are available.
- Participates in a continuous improvement process to achieve the corporate goal of zero injuries.
- Confers with local emergency responders and government officials (e.g., OSHA, DOT) to ensure cooperation and coordination of plant activities promotes safe operations and maintain compliance.
Below is a summary of requirements for qualified candidates:
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Environmental Health or a related discipline (Preferred but not required)
- Prior experience implementing and maintaining a safety program within a manufacturing environment
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other safety related certification (preferred)
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable government regulations, standards and procedures
- Proficient in Excel/Word

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
