Job Title: Sr. Design Release Engineer, Interior, Center Console

Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Sr. Design Release Engineer specializing in the development and design of Center Consoles for premium vehicles. This role involves leading the full design phase from the initial sketch to the final component release, ensuring all geometric requirements are met at each milestone. The successful candidate will interface with various teams, including studio, packaging, advanced engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers, to develop optimal design solutions. This position requires global travel to headquarters, suppliers, and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Lead the full design phase of Center Consoles from the initial sketch to the final component release.
• Track and resolve build issues resulting in design changes to ensure technical expertise.
• Ensure all geometric requirements for each milestone delivery are analyzed and met.
• Interface with studio, packaging, advanced engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to develop optimal design solutions.
• Create bill of materials and identify cost reduction potentials and manufacturing improvements.
• Create CAD surfaces and solids, GD&T, and fastening design using Catia V6.
• Utilize CAD methodologies, study files, slab models, and knowledge-based engineering.
• Support the global purchasing group in supplier nomination and decision-making to ensure the best quality for each component.
• Travel globally to headquarters, commodity suppliers, and contractors.

Essential Skills

• 8 years of experience as a detail-oriented Interior Components and Systems development lead for Center Consoles.
• Strong knowledge of the automotive Interior Components and Systems industry benchmarks, trends, and supplier competencies.
• Experience in creating/improving/establishing technical product specifications and timelines.
• Vehicle and product launch experience.
• Proficient in creating complex CAD models in CATIA V6 quickly and efficiently.
• Experience in manufacturing processes such as wrapping, injection molding, painting, and compression molding.
• Proven experience in common structural part manufacturing processes such as stamping, extrusion, and casting.
• Expertise in geometrical dimensioning and tolerance, including applying tolerance targets into component locators, attachment methods, and overall gap and flushness requirements.
• Strong engineering fundamentals to create innovative solutions.
• Experienced in modal analysis, finite element method analysis, and computer fluid dynamics.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to lead a cross-functional team of different cultures and nationalities.
• Fluent in German and English; a third language is preferred.
• Work ethic that delivers optimal solutions even in continuously changing and high-pressure situations.
• One full program cycle experience from concept to production launch in automotive Interior Components and Systems.
• Master of Science, Diplom-Ingenieur, or other Engineering Degree.

Work Environment

The role involves global travel to the US headquarters, commodity suppliers, and contractors. The position requires interfacing with multiple teams and using advanced technologies, such as Catia V6 for CAD modeling. The work environment is dynamic, with a focus on achieving the best solutions through continuous improvement and high-pressure situations.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00/hr.
