Job Description
As an Animal Care Technician, you will be responsible for performing assessments of animal health and well-being and producing quality products by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Outlines of Production (OPs). This role requires maintaining strict biosecurity standards. Key duties include performing general animal husbandry, test bleeds, inoculations, harvests, and various cleaning and maintenance tasks within the facility. You will also handle routine paperwork, operate equipment such as CO2 tanks and power washers, and ensure compliance with all safety and operational guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Perform general animal husbandry, including feeding, cleaning, and caring for animals.
- Conduct test bleeds, inoculations, and harvests following SOPs and OPs.
- Maintain strict biosecurity standards within the facility.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including CO2 tanks, power washers, building foggers, and autoclaves.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Handle and complete routine paperwork and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and operational guidelines.
Essential Skills
- Experience in animal husbandry and animal handling.
- Knowledge of operating CO2 tanks, power washers, and building foggers.
- Proficiency in handling laboratory equipment and autoclaves.
- Strong understanding of animal science, biology, and veterinary practices.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.), or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Self-motivated, dependable, flexible, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, you may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. You will regularly work near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. You will regularly wear protective clothing such as scrubs, lab coats, safety glasses, and gloves. The role requires using hands to handle birds, tools, or controls and reaching with hands and arms. You will need to move about the production facilities and grounds, position yourself to work with birds, and at times remain stationary. You should be able to regularly lift and move 30 pounds and up to 60 pounds frequently. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
