Job Title: CAD Technician

Job Description

The network underground group at a large utility company is seeking an AutoCAD Drafter for a long-term contract. This person will need to be a capable CAD Technician with experience in AutoCAD 2D design, along with some GIS experience. As a CAD technician, they will collaborate with the engineering team on designs. Work direction will be given by the Distribution Support Specialist with respect to implementing the approach to drawing the design. The CAD technician will work as part of a small team with other technicians and engineers. They will be assigned various projects under the guidance of the assigned design engineer. The standard working day will be dynamic, requiring flexibility with priorities based on demand.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the engineering team on designs.
• Implement drawing designs as directed by the Distribution Support Specialist.
• Translate verbal and written information into two-dimensional drawings for site Civil and Electrical construction.
• Ensure accuracy and attention to detail in all designs, with respect to civil approach.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with team members.
• Conduct fieldwork, including visiting underground manholes, ducts, and right of ways.
• Draft designs at a computer for 80% of the time, with 20% of the time spent in the field.

Essential Skills

• Experience with AutoCAD 2D design.
• Basic understanding of engineering drawing and principles.
• Ability to translate verbal and written information into accurate two-dimensional drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• At least a 2-year drafting degree.
• Experience in mechanical or architectural drafting.
• Exposure to GIS.
• Positive approach to learning GIS and CYME.

Work Environment

The work schedule includes 4 days in the office and 1 day working from home. The drafter will be working with a group of 3 other drafters, each supporting one or two engineers. If the selected drafter has an engineering degree, there is potential for career advancement within the company.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00
