Job Title: Certified Phlebotomist

Job Description

The Certified Phlebotomist aims to serve patients by preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening standards. The Phlebotomist will draw quality blood samples while creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence.

Responsibilities

• Draw quality blood samples, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
• Greet customers appropriately and treat all customers in a courteous manner.
• Collect specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.
• Reduce patient anxiety by providing a calm environment before, during, and after the collection process.
• Demonstrate proper techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples according to required temperature and appropriate procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
• Demonstrate proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Venipuncture
• Phlebotomy certification for the state of Maryland required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced environment or hospital setting
• Certification in phlebotomy

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab, outpatient or hospital setting required

Work Environment

Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.

The site is high volume with over 200 patients. The phlebotomist will be expected to perform venipunctures on 90% of them.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00
