Job Description
We are looking for a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our team in Springfield. The ideal candidate will conduct daily radiographic testing in manufacturing fabrication shops to ensure compliance with building code requirements and established procedures. This role involves performing ultrasonic testing inspections, which may extend to construction project sites to evaluate full penetration welds. Responsibilities include visual and physical assessments, field testing to verify conformance with plans and specifications, preparing inspection reports, documenting observations, and communicating findings to engineers or project managers. The candidate must adhere to strict safety standards at all times.
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily radiographic testing in manufacturing fabrication shops.
- Perform ultrasonic testing inspections, including at construction project sites.
- Carry out visual and physical assessments, as well as field testing to verify conformance with plans and specifications.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and document material testing results.
- Communicate findings to engineers or project managers and collaborate on solutions to potential issues.
- Adhere to strict safety standards at all times.
- Maintain and calibrate testing equipment.
- Work with project teams to resolve issues and assist in developing scopes for testing and inspection services.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in radiographic and ultrasonic testing.
- Experience with other NDT methods such as visual testing, magnetic particle testing, and dye penetrant testing.
- Ability to perform visual and physical inspections and field testing.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and building code requirements.
- Effective communication skills to relay findings to engineers, project managers, and other personnel.
- Strong documentation skills to provide clear and accurate reports of findings and nonconformance.
- Basic data analysis to verify accuracy before submitting information to the project manager.
- Ability to maintain and calibrate testing equipment.
- Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in construction inspection.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Relevant experience in construction inspection.
- Certifications such as ASNT Level II and potentially Level III certifications.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
Work Environment
This position is onsite at the fabrication shop and may involve travel to construction project sites. The candidate must adhere to strict safety standards and practices at all times.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
