Job Title: Chemical Operator
Job Description
Operate in a regulated environment, complying with PSM and OSHA regulations applicable to manufacturing responsibilities. This includes wearing appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) and understanding and following all applicable standard operating procedures, work instructions, and standard work practices.
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor reactors, decanters, filters, process columns, tanks, centrifuges, dryers, and other miscellaneous equipment through manual operations, panel boards, indicators, PLC displays, and DCS screens.
- Package, weigh, sample, and label finished and intermediate products following applicable procedures and good manufacturing practices.
- Maintain detailed operating reports and logs, including notes on problems, weights, volumes, measured temperatures, pH levels, pressures, and flow rates following applicable procedures and as directed by supervisor.
- Deliver samples to the laboratory and retrieve operating supplies from the storeroom.
- Clean and maintain work area, process equipment, tools, and safety supplies according to regulatory and company standards and operating procedures.
- Operate hoists and other material handling devices to move bulk raw materials, WIP, and packaged goods to and from pick-up points.
- Ensure a high level of safety awareness and determine when equipment is not performing to standards or expectations.
- Properly operate processing equipment to ensure the optimum production of high-quality products.
- Understand the potential dangers of equipment misuse and the chemicals being processed.
- Complete computer-based training on time.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Monitor environmental and safety devices to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
- Perform Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) independently.
- Participate in various employee involvement teams and committees to improve the workplace, increase efficiency, and improve productivity.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required
- Associate or Technical degree preferred
- Previous PSM manufacturing experience preferred
Work Environment
Work in a rotating 12-hour/day shift with mandatory overtime as needed. The plant’s open-air construction exposes operators to the normal year-round outside climate, although all 'homebase' workstations are indoors. Typical chemical plant environment with wet floors, chemical staining of equipment, and occasional chemical fumes.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
