Job Title: Chemical Process Engineer


Job Description

We are supporting a European leader in engineering, design, and advisory services with a global reach. The firm focuses on creating sustainable solutions across various sectors, including infrastructure, industry, and energy. They have offices in Appleton, WI and Birmingham, AL but need this person to work at their client site (confidential) in Toledo, Ohio. You will be involved in completing 20-30 small to medium projects over the next 2-3 years at this site with 15-25% travel to other sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of process design and P&ID drawings for major and minor detailed engineering projects.
  • Create mass and energy balances for projects and studies.
  • Analyze and define project scope, estimated cost, and technical aspects of a project in accordance with client and their customers' specifications.
  • Perform field surveys in preparation for design.
  • Travel to client facilities for project meetings and data gathering.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, purchase specifications, schedules, operation manuals, and related construction details for projects.
  • Provide technical input and develop control system programming documentation, including narrative descriptions for processes and control loops.
  • Lead the preparation of construction documents such as project scope of work documents and bidding documents.
  • Support field installation, checkout, and start-up of mechanical equipment and piping systems. Troubleshoot process-related issues during startups or mill visits.
  • Participate and lead client and project team meetings as required.
  • Assist the Project Engineer in performing administrative tasks as required.
  • Exhibit leadership and quality judgment in job assignments.
  • Understand the functionality of process control systems and the operation of process systems.
  • Understand the role of other engineering disciplines in project development and design.
  • Complete major project work successfully as the lead process engineer or area design lead on at least two projects.
  • Assist with sales efforts such as proposal preparation and business development.

Essential Skills

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in chemical process industries such as battery materials production, metals and mining, specialty chemicals, chlor-alkali, food and beverage, etc.
  • College degree from an accredited university in Chemical Engineering, Pulp and Paper Science, or related discipline with sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
  • 10 years of experience in engineering or manufacturing-related jobs.
  • Understanding of computer software utilized for process design and P&ID development, such as Aspen, CADSIM, WinGEMS, Pipe-Flo, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to independently make decisions concerning process design and project development.
  • Citizen of the United States or have the legal right to live and work in the United States.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Professional engineer’s license in chemical engineering or related disciplines in one or more states is beneficial.
  • Experience in the design and operation of pulp and paper areas such as chemical recovery processes, paper machines, and/or OCC plants is a plus.
  • Cross-functional engineering knowledge.

Work Environment

This candidate will be working at the customer site in Toledo, Ohio. There is flexibility to work from home, but they will be needed on-site at least 75% of the time. The consultant will report to the site managers as well as the client's process team. The VP is supportive of the candidate staying in the Toledo area post-project, as there is potential for an office to be built due to sufficient business in the area. Remote work requires high-speed internet service at the candidate’s home.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $72.12 - $96.16
