Job Title: Laboratory Assistant

Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated Laboratory Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in a medical or laboratory setting and be comfortable handling human samples. This role involves preparing and processing clinical lab specimens, ensuring all lab equipment is functioning properly, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. This is a contract-only position with the potential for future permanent opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Pull samples out of storage or walk-in fridges and bring them to technicians for retesting (200-300 samples at a time).
• Scan samples into the tracking system.
• Receive and sort clinical lab specimens.
• Prepare specimens for testing and analysis.
• Scan and/or enter specimen and patient information into the system.
• Ensure all lab equipment is working properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance.
• Troubleshoot any specimen-related issues.
• Replenish test bench supplies as needed.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested.
• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safety and quality standards.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to stand for the majority of the shift.
• Comfortable handling human samples.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Medical or lab experience (academic experience is acceptable).

Work Environment

This position offers two shift options: Tuesday-Saturday from 8am to 4:30pm, and Monday-Friday from 8am to 4:30pm. The work environment includes two paid fifteen-minute breaks and one unpaid thirty-minute break. The team consists of 8-9 people on the day shift, with opportunities for growth. The role involves light lifting and carrying, with a maximum of 10-15 pounds. The majority of the shift will be spent on your feet, including a few hours in walk-in fridges, with rotations to ensure you are not in the fridges for the entire shift.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.50 - $16.50/hr.
