Job Title: Construction /Concrete Inspector
Job Description
Acquire hands-on experience in both field and office environments. Learn to design and prepare construction drawings for civil, transportation, mechanical, water/wastewater, and utility projects. Get an overview of opportunities including civil, road and bridge design, industrial, commercial, utilities, and public sector work. Collaborate with a group of talented leaders. Build relationships across the company and align your skills and interests with various engineering disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and monitor contractual fieldwork, including excavations, drainage facilities, concrete placement, steel and precast member erections, soil and aggregate placement, road surfaces, and structures of moderate complexity.
- Verify construction of Roadway and Hwy to ensure compliance with drawings, VDOT specifications and standards, special provisions, and contract documents.
- Advise contractors on deficiencies, issues, failing tests, and noncompliance, providing reference documents for conclusions.
- Take field measurements of materials placed and record production and test results.
- Perform materials testing such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate density and dense aggregate roller pattern control strips.
- Review placement of and perform materials tests on concrete deliveries in accordance with VDOT and ACI standards, and make cylinders for delivery to the labs.
- Review and inspect asphalt and concrete roadways and bridge decks.
- Review and inspect reinforcing steel and forms prior to concrete placement of more complex and non-routine structures and sign pour cards.
- Review lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using standard survey and field engineering equipment.
- Oversee and enforce the installation of erosion/siltation controls and highways work zones and traffic control devices.
- Prepare daily diaries, inspection checklists, and materials testing forms.
- Receive materials delivery tickets for compliance and submit them to the contractor.
- Take assignments and direction from Quality Control Lead Management and Senior Inspectors.
- Track deficiencies and nonconformance and their corrective actions; document in Daily reports and actively participate in work activity prep meetings and kick-off meetings for work activities.
Top Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Experience in labor and construction
- Experience in inspecting construction materials
- Certifications in concrete inspection (preferred)
- Ability to perform general labor duties such as working in different conditions, lifting (<50lbs), and recording inspection data into a tablet
Work Environment
The work environment includes both outdoor and office settings. You will be working in various weather conditions such as cold, hot, rain, and snow. A lot of overtime is available, and there is a night shift differential of an extra $1.50/hr for any night shift hours. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
