Job Title: Construction Manager - Mechanical Engineer (CM-M)
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Construction/Mechanical Engineer (CM-M) to support the VA in their Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) infrastructure upgrades at the O’Neil VAMC in Topeka, KS. This position requires professional and technical consultative assistance related to operations, renovation, and new construction programs supporting EHRM. This includes assisting the Contracting Officer and the Contracting Officer’s Representative in various project management, engineering, planning, and oversight tasks.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and review project financial data and budgetary cost accounting.
- Assist with administration of construction contract change orders.
- Prepare cost estimates, review cost proposals, and prepare change order packages.
- Analyze constructability impacts on facility operations, including parking, utility shutdowns, and noise impacts.
- Develop mutually acceptable phasing plans for construction and facility operations.
- Conduct or attend weekly/bi-weekly progress meetings to review project status and resolve issues.
- Keep thorough records of occurrences and assist in conflict resolution.
- Monitor independent testing agencies for quality control testing and inspection services.
- Maintain marked-up project plans for future as-built drawings.
- Perform routine inspections, identify non-conforming work, and notify relevant parties for corrections.
- Compile lists of defects and omissions and provide them to contractors for correction.
- Assist in internal coordination and communication of outages and relocation efforts.
- Ensure material and installation compliance to approved submittals.
- Coordinate with Owner supplied equipment and provide escorts for contractors in secure areas.
Essential Skills
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in both design and construction.
- Knowledge of engineering services, building codes, budgeting, and scheduling.
- Ability to supervise and manage personnel of diverse skillsets.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in medical facility construction is a significant advantage.
- Familiarity with Front End and Technical Specifications and Drawings.
- Strong understanding of local, state, and federal requirements.
Work Environment
The position requires on-site presence for the duration of the EHRM Construction Project. The project will span over 2 years, with an initial 12-month contract-to-hire period. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate for the duration of the project. The role involves regular progress meetings and coordination with multiple stakeholders, thorough documentation, and adherence to construction and safety standards.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $52.00 - $67.00/hr.
