Job Description
The Data Acquisition Engineer will be responsible for setting up and conducting data acquisition using various data acquisition systems. This role involves coordinating test specimen builds, setting up data acquisition systems, processing data, and communicating with stakeholders. A detailed understanding of data acquisition systems, various transducers, and CAN communication is essential. The engineer will also operate and conduct data acquisition at company grounds.
Responsibilities
- Set up and conduct data acquisition using various systems.
- Coordinate test specimen builds.
- Process data and ensure accuracy.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Lead projects from start to finish with minimal guidance.
- Coordinate and instruct mechanics in performing vehicle instrumentation, part strain gauging, and part changes.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical/industrial/Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited university.
- 2-5 years of engineering experience within a testing environment in the automotive industry.
- Experience with data acquisition equipment using various transducers including wheel force transducers, accelerometers, load cells, and strain gages.
- Understanding of damage severity analysis and stress-life/load-life calculations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and VBA.
- Strong time management, leadership, planning, and follow-up skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work overtime during the week and weekends on occasion.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally 10-20% of the time.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in mechanical/electrical/industrial/Aeronautical Engineering.
- Previous CANBUS experience.
- Experience with NCode, MTS RPC Pro, and FlexTest.
- Knowledge of strain gauge theory and application.
- Suspension/driveline knowledge.
- Experience with load, acceleration, and displacement transducers.
- Consideration for new graduates with related co-op experience.
Work Environment
Onsite at CTC or CPG (Chelsea Proving Grounds) 90% of the time. The role may require driving company cars and involves occasional travel within North America. The work environment supports a structured and detail-oriented approach to data acquisition and testing.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $42.89 - $43.77/hr.
