Distillation Chemist
Are you passionate about chemistry, biology, or environmental science? Join our team as a Distillation Chemist, where you can play a pivotal role in the purification of organic chemicals through advanced distillation techniques.
Position Overview:
Under guidance, you'll execute processing operations focused on the purification of organic substances using state-of-the-art distillation systems. Your responsibilities will include handling various materials, analyzing chemical compositions, and managing batch process documentation, all while contributing to a cleaner environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and fine-tune distillation equipment, ensuring optimal operation of heating, cooling, vacuum, and pressure systems.
- Transport, weigh, mix, and pump various chemical materials with precision.
- Utilize analytical instruments to evaluate the quality of distillation cuts and final products, interpreting results to ensure standards are met. With oversight, adapt processes when unexpected deviations arise.
- Monitor process parameters to ensure high product quality, yield, and lot consistency, identifying areas for improvement and proposing corrective measures.
- Assist in preparing test results and reports as needed.
- Maintain proper care and safety standards for all technology, equipment, and systems.
- Keep a clean and organized workspace to promote safety and efficiency.
- Provide support in training and serve as a resource for Distillation Technicians and junior Distillation Chemists.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in distillation processes.
- Strong understanding of vacuum distillation principles and gas chromatographic analysis.
- An associate’s degree may be considered if accompanied by substantial hands-on experience and training.
Work Environment:
- You may encounter hazardous materials, fumes, and physical demands requiring adherence to safety protocols and training.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to handle containers using mechanical means; moving heavy 55-gallon drums (up to 700 lbs.) and lifting 5-gallon containers (up to 44 lbs.) are essential tasks.
- Must be comfortable climbing stairs and using ladders, and be able to stand or walk for more than four hours daily.
