Job Title: Drafter/Designer
Job Description
As a Drafter/Designer, you will collaborate with process, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation/controls engineers to support design projects and improvements. You will assist in the preparation of design proposals, specifications, and cost estimates while participating in project team discussions and plant walkthroughs. Your role will include developing process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, electrical layouts, and mechanical schematics. You will provide technical and field support during the construction, commissioning, and operational phases of plant projects.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers to support design projects related to new plant systems, upgrades, and modifications.
- Assist in the preparation of design proposals, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Participate in project team discussions and plant walkthroughs to understand project requirements.
- Evaluate and recommend improvements to existing systems to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve safety.
- Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), electrical layouts, and mechanical schematics.
- Create and modify engineering drawings for plant processes and equipment layouts using CAD software.
- Maintain accurate documentation for all designs, including revision tracking and change management.
- Ensure all drawings comply with relevant safety codes, industry regulations, and plant standards.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure design solutions meet the plant’s needs.
- Assist in troubleshooting design and operational issues, providing timely solutions to prevent production disruptions.
- Contribute to the improvement of design standards, processes, documentation, and tools used within the engineering department.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in design and drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, etc.).
- Knowledge of chemical layout and design related to process flows, piping, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Understanding of safety standards, codes, and regulations in the chemical and industrial sectors.
- Ability to interpret and apply engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality in design work.
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associates degree or certificate in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Design, or a related field or related experience with a high school diploma.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in engineering/architectural design, drafting, and technical support within a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience with 3D modeling and other advanced design tools is advantageous.
- Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and chemical systems as they relate to plant operations and equipment is desirable.
Work Environment
The work environment includes both office and plant settings within a chemical manufacturing plant. Routine visits to the plant for inspections, design/layout, and troubleshooting are required. The role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, quality, ESH, and procurement.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.72 - $38.46/hr.
