Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer III to help design sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and power distribution systems for commercial and industrial clients. You will develop and assess design options, perform engineering calculations, and create estimates for small-scale improvement projects. You will also assist Lead Engineers with major capital upgrade projects, analyze electrical faults, power quality issues, and system loading scenarios, and help implement solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and power distribution systems for commercial and industrial clients.
- Develop and assess design options, perform engineering calculations, and create estimates for small-scale improvement projects.
- Assist Lead Engineers with major capital upgrade projects.
- Analyze electrical faults, power quality issues, and system loading scenarios, and help implement solutions.
- Conduct site surveys for new utility service requests, develop design concepts, and present them to management and customers.
- Create system models for large-scale power systems using ETAP or similar software, and perform various analyses and studies.
- Gain and maintain knowledge of power system protection and relaying schemes.
- Update and maintain the GIS database for large-scale electrical distribution systems.
- Schedule and attend field walk-downs with customers to understand and determine project requirements.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in designing sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and power distribution systems.
- Experience with medium and high voltage electrical substations and distribution systems.
- Proficiency with ETAP or similar software.
- Knowledge of power system protection and relaying schemes.
- Strong understanding of power system analysis, distribution system modeling, and protective device coordination.
- (3-8) years of related engineering work experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis on power systems preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Team player with the ability to collaborate effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with arc flash studies.
- Ability to create one-line and three-line diagrams.
- Mix of distribution, transmission line, and substation experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- US citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain Military Base Security Access Clearance.
Work Environment
You will work with a team of 35 engineers, typically split into teams of 10, depending on the assigned military base or project. The work schedule includes in-office days on Tuesday and Wednesday, with up to 20% travel to client sites outside of Colorado. This travel usually spans 2-4 days per month. The company offers a stable work environment with 50-year contracts and provides all travel expenses. You will be involved in all project phases, from engineering to installation and operations & maintenance. Additional benefits include a short-term incentive program (STIP), bi-weekly pay, PTO accrual, and an excellent benefits package including health, dental, life insurance, 401(k), profit sharing, Paid Time Off, and holidays.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $108000.00 - $138000.00/yr.
