Engineering Co-op / Internship

Job Background & Summary:

Work Model: Remote from Greater Prince George, BC Area of British Columbia (other areas of Northern BC will be consider on a case-by-case basis).

We at Actalent Services are a fast-growing engineering consulting group which expanded to Canada in 2014. A significant part of that growth has come out of our Western Canadian Operations focused on Infrastructure and Utilities projects. To support this growth, we have opened a 4 or 8 month Engineering Co-op (Civil or Electrical Preferred) to join our team.

The selected individual will be a part of our Utilities Division, which is based out of New Westminster, BC. As stated, this role will be Remote from Greater Prince George, BC.

The selected individual will join our rapidly growing team delivering projects to a variety of utility clients with a focus on electrical utility infrastructure. This role will cover field inspections for our BC Hydro Overhead Distribution projects in Northern BC. The role will be primarily field inspection, however, could have an opportunity to also do some overhead design.

This role required Drug and Alcohol screening as a pre-employment requirement.

Job Requirements

• 2 years of Post Secondary Education in Electrical or Civil Engineering
• 4 months experience from a past Co-op/ Iinternship focused in either Field Engineering or Field Inspection
• Class 5 Drivers License
• Access to reliable person vehicle (we compensate kms at the Government rate)
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Proficient using MS Office and AutoCAD software

Responsibilities

• Conduct field Inspections for utility power distribution infrastructure
• Design Assistant / Project Administrative tasks will be assigned on a case -by-case basis.
• Design underground and overhead electrical infrastructure according to client and national standards and requirements.
• Use SPIDAcalc non-linear pole line analysis tool to evaluate pole design and create non-standard OH Line design solutions.
• Use of underground cable pulling calculation software to confirm design solutions.
• Use load balancing and fuse coordination software for distribution system improvement projects.
• Provide design for any non-standard/engineered solutions.
• Prepare design packages for review and submission. Packages to be provided for Pole Replacement/Maintenance, LPT/PMT/Livefront, Feeder Design, Smart Meter, Customer Driven 3rd Party Attachments, Automation and other BC Hydro Programs.
• Prepare issue for construction packages
• Coordinating with clients, co-workers, subcontractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders
• Attend project meetings and conduct site inspections and reviews
• Other responsibilities as required.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
