Job Title: Engineering Supervisor
Job Description
You will be responsible for monitoring production processes and ensuring that manufacturing operations run smoothly. Activities often include hands-on problem-solving, data collection, and working closely with production teams. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing production processes in manufacturing. Your work involves the entire lifecycle of a production process, from the initial start-up phase through to implementation and beyond. The goal is to ensure efficient, cost-effective production lines that can scale up to meet demand and produce high-quality output with minimal waste. You will oversee the start-up, operations, and completion of assigned packaging lines. Supervisors are essential to ensuring a safe, efficient work environment while providing real-time coaching and mentoring to packaging and production staff.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safety procedures are followed by adherence to company policies.
- Ensure frontline quality check compliance to meet company quality standards.
- Recommend measures to maintain safe operations, improve production methods, equipment performance, and use of equipment to increase efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Study production schedule to ascertain type and quantity of product, containers to be used, codes, package number, planning sequence of production, and other packaging requirements.
- Compose weekly staffing schedule based on production requirements to ensure efficient operations and minimal overtime.
- Participate in the appropriate selection and usage of resources (materials, systems, utilities, and equipment) required for the effective operations of the packaging department.
- Confer with management, other departments, supervisors, and operators to coordinate activities to assure a safe environment, quality product, and efficient operations.
- Suggest and initiate plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.
- Initiate personnel actions, such as performance evaluations and disciplinary measures.
- Facilitate daily debriefs with the packaging staff.
- Check and approve hours worked of hourly employees on the lines.
- Assist in internal auditing, such as GMP, HACCP, and Safety.
- Ensure compliance with Internal, Federal, State, and local guidelines and regulations including GMP, HACCP, OSHA, FDA, and TTB.
- Check the machinery of the lines for operational readiness and proper setup.
- Oversee the operations of the lines during production.
- Direct changeovers to assure proper materials are used, proper amounts are produced, and proper codes are used per the BOM.
- Frequently review the operator quality assurance checks throughout the shift.
- At shutdown, be present to assure the proper length of run and that all machinery, conveyors, air, CO2, water, and chain lube are shut off.
- Take case counts and record.
- Make out work orders for repairs or improvements needed on the lines.
- Supervise training of employees in operations, safety, quality standards, GMPs, and HACCP procedures.
Essential Skills
- Degree in Engineering - Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Engineering Technology preferred (others considered).
- 0 to 1 year of experience; internship experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strategic thinking.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- People skills - ability to lead and hold people accountable.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $38.00/hr.
