Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to serve as the subject matter expert and provide occupational health, safety, and environmental support to our facility. The EHS Manager will work closely with site management on all EHS matters, establish, administer, and monitor performance of applicable EHS policies, programs, and associated management systems to ensure a safe and healthy work environment and compliance with EHS regulations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the main EHS subject matter expert and point of contact for EHS matters at the facility.
- Develop, implement, administer, and maintain written facility-level EHS programs in accordance with legal and company requirements.
- Deliver or facilitate training required by EHS regulations and associated programs.
- Manage compliance obligations associated with applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
- Develop and implement risk reduction initiatives and programs to minimize/eliminate unsafe conditions and at-risk behaviors.
- Lead EHS-related projects and collaborate with internal maintenance, production management, and outside resources on EHS matters as needed.
- Coordinate and maintain an internal safety program, including safety committees and regular safety meetings.
- Report EHS performance metrics to site management and Corporate EHS for review. Assist in the preparation of EHS performance reports/presentations.
- Work closely with the Global EHS Manager to respond to regulatory inquiries, inspections, and/or notices of violation.
- Audit the effectiveness of existing EHS programs and management systems and update as necessary to ensure compliance and effective performance.
- Conduct routine EHS walkthroughs, inspections, and/or audits of facility operations. Monitor findings and manage corrective actions to ensure timely resolution.
- Manage worker’s compensation and injury management programs, including return-to-work programs. Implement accident investigation programs and procedures.
- Facilitate EHS training programs required by regulation and company policy. Act as primary contact for EHS-specific training needs for all employees.
- Oversee and manage environmental programs, including record keeping for air, water/stormwater, and special/hazardous waste management programs.
- Take a lead role in implementing emergency response programs including life/safety, fire protection, and emergency evacuation procedures.
- Implement the facility’s PPE program, including identification of minimum and job-specific PPE requirements, and ensure the correct PPE is available.
- Utilize EHS data management software to track hazards, near misses, accidents, injuries, safety observations, audits, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Understand and maintain knowledge of manufacturing activities and applicable EHS regulations. Monitor for changes to EHS regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a physical presence in the facility during core work hours and observe operations during off-shift hours to ensure the effectiveness of EHS management systems.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in a safety role in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in federal, state, and local occupational health and safety regulations, industry standards, and core industrial safety concepts.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., CSP) are a plus.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations related to air emissions, water/stormwater management, and waste management practices.
- First Aid / CPR / AED certification or ability to obtain certification within 3 months of accepting the position.
- Ability to conduct forklift operator training and manage forklift operator certification program.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate facility safety awareness and behaviors.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work with EHS data management software and analyze data.
- BS/BA in an appropriate science or technical field, or equivalent experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of professional work experience in an environmental role is desired but not mandatory.
- Advanced First Aid certification is a plus.
- Applicable industrial safety training is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and a matrix organization.
- Program and project management skills are critical.
- Ability to act as a 'change agent' to drive safety culture change.
Work Environment
The EHS Manager will work in an industrial/manufacturing environment and must be able to maintain a physical presence on the manufacturing floor during core work hours. The role requires spending time observing and interacting with managers, supervisors, and production employees. The EHS Manager will also need to periodically attend shift changeover meetings and observe operations during off-shift hours to ensure the effectiveness of EHS management systems. The work environment includes adherence to safety protocols, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with emergency response programs.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
