Job Description
Our client, a global engineering and professional services firm is seeking a project engineer to join their team on one of BC's most exciting projects. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Field Engineer is responsible for assisting in the planning, supervision, and execution of construction projects mainly related to Marine Works and Civil Works.
Responsibilities
- Meet daily with project crews to review production schedule and confirm all materials, equipment, and resources are readily available for production to continue on schedule and within budget.
- Collect, coordinate, and analyze shop drawings, design specifications, material requirements, and project data throughout the duration of the project to ensure quality and contract specification compliance.
- Provide technical input for project work plans and scheduling, identifying risk elements of production, materials, equipment, or processes that could negatively impact the budget or schedule.
- Evaluate daily production, schedule, and budget projections to accurately track project performance. Document daily activities using company-approved methods and technologies.
- Notify team members and the manager of any significant schedule changes and recommend solutions for management consideration.
- Perform additional assignments as directed by management.
- Submit accurate project quantity inputs and controls using assigned project cost coding to ensure project financials are accurately reported. Manage cost coding with company finance and accounting teams regarding employee time, materials, equipment, and subcontractor needs.
- Review project specifications for quality control at the beginning of the work, during the project work, and after work completion. Initiate and manage appropriate certificates, inspections, and other documentation regarding construction production on the project site.
- Work with construction crews and engineering leaders to plan field layout on the project site. Initiate and manage any permits needed before work can begin.
- Coordinate subcontractor work methods, schedules, and crews as needed.
- Reconcile job close-out checklist with owner representatives and field crews at the end of the project.
Essential Skills
- Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering or Construction Management disciplines, or an acceptable combination of education and previous experience.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as a Field Engineer or Project Coordinator, ideally in project engineering or heavy civil construction environments.
- Knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, building materials, and required standards applicable to the project.
- Proficiency in construction-related software (e.g., Primavera Scheduling software, AutoCAD, SAP, etc.).
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Flexibility to work in both field and office environments.
- Valid BC driver's license.
Work Environment
This role involves both field and office work. The Field Engineer will be required to work on construction sites, coordinating with crews and ensuring all materials and resources are available for production. Proficiency in construction-related software and MS Office is essential for documenting and analyzing project data, and communicating effectively with team members and management.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
