What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fpga Engineer position at Actalent?
Job Title: Senior FPGA Design Engineer
Job Description
The Senior FPGA Design Engineer will contribute to development efforts, working with minimal direction and oversight, following industry best practices and processes. The role involves developing FPGAs using major vendor and device families including Xilinx, Altera, Lattice, and Microsemi, with Xilinx being most relevant. Designs will be implemented using VHDL for various applications including serial interfaces, Digital Signal Processing (DSP), controls, data links, embedded processing, and processor interfaces. The engineer will represent the design team in meetings or events both internal and with the Government to review concepts, preliminary designs, detailed designs, and design verification. Additionally, the engineer may provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to less experienced engineers, helping to build and maintain strong core capability in FPGA design. The role involves supporting all phases of the development process, working with circuit card designers and systems engineers to develop requirements, architect new systems, model algorithms, develop code, perform simulations, place and route, and design verification against requirements using both directed test and constrained random methodologies. Accurate and detailed design documentation and configuration management of designs is required.
Responsibilities
- Serve as an expert in FPGA design.
- Develop FPGA designs implementing VHDL for a range of applications.
- Work within a team environment providing design support from requirements definition through integration and test.
- Represent the design team in internal and Government meetings to review concepts, preliminary designs, detailed designs, and design verification.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
- Support all phases of the development process, including developing requirements, architecting new systems, modeling algorithms, developing code, performing simulations, place and route, and design verification.
- Ensure accurate and detailed design documentation and configuration management of designs.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience in FPGA digital design and/or VHDL coding.
- Experience with incremental FPGA design practices including logic fencing, floor planning approaches, incremental layout techniques, physical placement constraints, and compile point synthesis attributes.
- Experience selecting, simulating, integrating, and verifying complex Intellectual Property (IP) cores and interfacing such IP cores with application-specific digital logic.
- Experience delivering FPGA solutions to system-level applications.
- Hands-on integration and debug experience with digital designs.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering - EE, or similar.
- 5 years of FPGA design/development experience with Xilinx.
- 5 years of full lifecycle development experience (both sides of the V model).
- Expertise in VHDL programming, PCB design, Verilog, digital circuit design, PLD, and firmware.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with FPGA vendors and device families suitable for radiation-hard and/or radiation-tolerant designs.
- Familiarity with design techniques to reduce Single Event Effects (SEE), implement Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) techniques, safe hardware practices, and error detection and other Built In Self-Test techniques.
- Experience designing digital circuits to survive harsh environmental conditions and MIL-STD-810 testing.
- Experience with DoD development processes.
Work Environment
The work environment involves working with major FPGA vendor and device families, especially Xilinx. The role includes supporting all phases of the development process and collaborating with circuit card designers and systems engineers. The dress code and facility conditions will align with standard industry practices.
