Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer to transfer drawings from PDF files, hand drawings, and other CAD platforms to complete the 3D modeling of components, sub-assemblies, and assemblies for manual wheelchairs. The ideal candidate will work closely with engineers and marketing staff during the dynamic conceptual stages of projects to generate multiple models for concept and prototype evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Work with engineers and marketing staff in the dynamic conceptual stages of projects to generate multiple models for concept and prototype evaluation.
- Generate component files for various prototyping techniques, procure prototype parts, and evaluate components and designs, including meeting with suppliers as necessary.
- Generate specific models and conduct CAD-based FEA analysis on components and moderately complex systems in conjunction with engineers.
- Utilize knowledge of equipment capabilities, application techniques, and design limitations during the design process with minimal input.
- Take responsibility for finalizing design CAD models in a manner that supports the project timeline, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Prepare design concepts, assemblies, and detail drawings, perform mathematical calculations, research material options and manufacturing techniques, and prepare completed models in support of product design.
- Maintain and develop a high level of knowledge of CAD tools, CAD techniques, and prototype methods; provide direction and training as appropriate.
- Ensure all product development processes and activities conform to quality standards.
- Collaborate with QA/RA to ensure that product development processes and activities meet domestic and international safety and quality standards.
Essential Skills
- 3D modeling experience with SolidWorks
- 2 years of mechanical design experience
- Component and assembly design
- Working knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Two (2) years of college or an Associate’s Degree in Drafting, Engineering, or Engineering Technologies preferred
- Ability to work from concept to production
- Detailed knowledge of various prototype and production manufacturing techniques for metal and plastic components
- Experience utilizing various manufacturing techniques to design for assembly
- Experience working with an ECR/ECN process and manufacturing BOM systems
Work Environment
The work environment includes working with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, and AutoCAD. The candidate will use various prototyping techniques and collaborate with engineers and marketing staff. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure that all development processes meet safety and quality standards. The environment is dynamic, and the candidate will be expected to maintain a high level of knowledge of CAD tools and techniques.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $38.00/hr.
