Job Title: Geotechnical Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to oversee soil borings and manage drilling schedules for substation projects in Orange and Rockland counties. This role requires a significant amount of fieldwork with the balance being remote work from home. The ideal candidate will prepare boring logs, assist in preparing geotechnical design reports, and coordinate project drilling schedules.

Responsibilities

• Oversee borings in Orange and Rockland counties.
• Prepare and maintain detailed boring logs.
• Assist in the preparation of geotechnical design reports.
• Coordinate with drillers and manage project drilling schedules.
• Complete engineering tasks such as foundation design, including rock anchor designs.
• Observe the advancement of borings and prepare field boring logs.
• Review driller reports, perform field tests, interpret data, and compile daily reports.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Minimum of 4 years of discipline-specific engineering experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a field observer of geotechnical borings.
• Experience with at least 3 similar projects near energized transmission lines or substations.
• Advanced proficiency with engineering, computational, and modeling software (Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation, mFAD, LPile, SACS).
• Strong understanding of soil boring and foundation design.
• Familiarity with QA/QC procedures and engineering-related business practices and laws.
• Valid driver’s license.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to manage drilling schedules.
• Ability to travel up to 5 days a week to oversee contractors.
• Experience with soil sampling and inspection.

Work Environment

This role requires 5 days on-site work with mileage reimbursement for commuting to various locations within Orange and Rockland counties. The position is hourly and will be paid straight time for any hours worked over 40. When not on-site, the engineer will work from home, focusing on reporting and occasional design work to maintain hours if fieldwork is slow.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.07 - $67.30/hr.
