Job Title: GIS Analyst
Job Description
The GIS Analyst will support Operation Services, an internal department that supports construction projects. This role involves completing engineering designs and cost estimates using GIS for all types of main and service work. Additional responsibilities include collecting construction activity 'as-built' data using a mobile CPS collection device in the field for creating permanent asset records, editing map features and their correlating attribute data in the GIS, performing final quality checks of GIS versioned data before posting to the GIS, representing Engineering at internal and external project meetings, and conducting field visits to job sites to determine requirements for service and main work.
Responsibilities
- Complete engineering designs and cost estimates using GIS for all types of main and service work.
- Collect construction activity 'as-built' data using a mobile CPS collection device in the field for creating permanent asset records.
- Edit map features and their correlating attribute data in the GIS.
- Perform final quality checks of GIS versioned data before posting to the GIS.
- Represent Engineering at internal and external project meetings as required.
- Conduct field visits to job sites to determine requirements for service and main work.
- Perform preliminary review of development plans and interface with customers.
- Implement and train Engineering staff on new work processes for the GIS mapping system.
- Distribute and update maps for other departments as requested.
- Distribute and approve requests for the acquisition and release of easements as well as the vacation of rights-of-way.
- Perform pipeline safety compliance-related GIS analysis as directed by the Manager.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in ArcGIS and CAD.
- Experience with construction documents and 'as-built' data.
- Ability to perform cost forecasting and drafting.
- Strong skills in editing construction drawings.
- Ability to complete engineering designs and cost estimates using GIS.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in training Engineering staff on new work processes for GIS mapping systems.
- Ability to distribute and update maps for other departments.
- Experience in performing preliminary reviews of development plans.
- Skills in distributing and approving requests for the acquisition and release of easements.
- Ability to perform pipeline safety compliance-related GIS analysis.
Work Environment
The role is based in a professional engineering office, with work performed five days per week initially, and then transitioning to three days per week in the office after training. Physical demands may involve working in both office and field settings, with exposure to the elements. Typical work hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, with potential overtime and/or travel as required.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
