Job Title: Industrial Hygienist I
Job Description
The Industrial Hygienist is responsible for monitoring and updating the industrial health program to recognize, eliminate, evaluate, and control industrial health hazards. This role emphasizes addressing environmental factors and stressors arising in or from the workplace that may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and update the industrial health program to manage industrial health hazards.
- Recognize, eliminate, evaluate, and control environmental factors and stressors in the workplace.
- Assist leadership in assessing risk, determining risk tolerance, and mitigating risks.
- Generate professional technical reports and collaborate with the Nurse Practitioner on employee notification letters related to exposure monitoring results.
- Support and execute all functions of the EH&S Coordinators.
- Conduct additional training to ensure employee awareness of occupational health topics.
- Perform job safety assessments as needed, providing workplace mentoring.
- Implement corrective actions and/or halt operations where necessary.
Essential Skills

- DBIDS
- Degree in Chemistry or related field approved by the ABIH certification board (Chemistry or Biology degree)

Work Environment
The work environment involves a shipyard repair and maintenance style setting. Ideally, candidates should have prior experience in a shipyard to be familiar with this type of environment. The culture is collaborative, with all departments working well together and employees feeling valued. There is a good tenure among employees, and significant opportunities for growth into higher positions within the EHS department. The team size involves interaction with various departments throughout the shipyard to ensure smooth operations. The standard work hours are from 6am to 2:30pm, Monday to Friday.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $40.00/hr.
