Job Title: Lab Chemist

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Lab Chemist with experience in wet chemistry techniques, sample collection and analysis, and gas chromatography. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in the sciences, preferably in Chemistry, and be comfortable working with both hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

• Perform sample analysis in a lab, handling about 20 samples within a 12-hour time span
• Collect and analyze chemical samples, coordinating their departure from the facility after analysis
• Conduct wet chemistry techniques and gas chromatography
• Recycle solvents, focusing on flammable but non-hazardous materials
• Calibrate laboratory instruments
• Produce Certificates of Analysis (COAs)
• Review orders and release materials on trucks, after gaining experience in the role

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in wet chemistry techniques, especially pH measurement
• Degree in the sciences (Bachelors or Associates in Chemistry preferred)
• Experience in sample collection and analysis
• Exposure to or experience with gas chromatography (academic research experience acceptable)
• Strong organizational and time management skills

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in the environmental industry or with direct competitors
• Comfortable working with hazardous and non-hazardous materials
• Understanding of BTU (British Thermal Unit) preferred
• Knowledge of laboratory best practices, quality control, KF, UV-Vis, viscosity, pH, GC, chemical titration, and environmental testing
• 1-2 years of experience in a lab environment (academic experience is acceptable)

Work Environment

The position is located in NJ, where the candidate will work closely with the Lab Manager but will sometimes be the only chemist in the lab. The company provides environmental services to commercial, industrial, and automotive customers, including the re-refining of used oil and parts cleaning services. The work involves ensuring the proper collection, processing, re-refining, recycling, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Candidates will receive a uniform to wear on their first day.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00
